  1. You can request 2-4 fandoms and offer 3-5.

  3. Preferred characters and ships are optional and not restricted to the tagset. Your writing/reading preferences are required, as I do hand matching.

  5. If AO3 won't add a tag because it's non-canonical, just add it to your optional details section.

  7. You can use a sock (a new account created just to participate in exchanges) or add your works to the Anonymous collection on AO3 when you post it. "Socking up" is not against the rules of this exchange.

  9. You can request crossovers between fandoms included in the tagset by asking for the fandom "Crossover Fandom", then describing in your Prompts / Likes. Please include the fandom names. You can also just request your fandoms and add an optional crossover option/prompt in the Prompts / Likes section of a particular request. You can also use this space to opt out of any crossovers.

  11. For offers, you may do the same, make one offer "Crossover Fandom" and list the crossovers from the tagset you're willing to write or add a note under a particular fandom that you're willing to write crossovers for it and with what fandoms. You can also use the details space to state you are not willing to write crossovers.

Have a few:

01. MCU, Bobbi/Clint, "Morning Touch"

Bobbi's touch wakes him. She's still dressed, probably just got in.

She kisses Clint gently, like he's fragile and breakable. He closes his eyes against the soft sensation of her warm lips on his forehead then cheek. She runs one finger over the line of his jaw and he waits for her palm to smooth over his skin close enough to kiss her back.

She stills under the touch.

He opens his eyes, smiles at the familiar complicated expression on her face. "I'm okay," he tells her.

Bobbi just shakes her head, golden hair falling into her eyes. "This time."

02. Cowboy Bepop, Faye, "She Runs"

Sometimes she's fragile. Sometimes she thinks she's going to shatter into pieces, and then she runs as far into space and casinos or horse races and the shouts of bets as she can.

She isn't entirely sure sometimes if she's real, if she wants to be real. It's easier to glitter and fight and forget herself in the risk of a toss and a win.

She knows her real name is Faye, but she does not know the rest.

Memory tickles at the edges of who she is, another moment triggers something she can almost remember, and fragile, she runs.

03. MCU, Bobbi/Clint, "Give Me a Chance"

"Why did you save her?" Bobbi stares at Clint as if he's a stranger instead of her husband.

What could have possessed him to take such a risk or to throw away his orders so thoroughly? This is Clint. It's not entirely surprising, but the Black Widow?

She waits out the way his throat works and he looks away before finally shaking his head.

"She never had a chance, Birdie. I was— I never had a chance until someone gave it to me." He stares at her, seeming to will her to understand.

Bobbi softens and pulls him close. "Okay."

So I knew I wanted to write these three characters for the next Tower Party tag and the prompt delivered, because Strike Team Delta are the kind of people who don't like having a moment in the sun. It could have gone a lot of ways this story, but I just started writing and ended up with a lot of mistrust in the wake of SHIELD's fall and Natasha dumping everything online. It ended up with a hint of comicsverse backstory for Bobbi in that she's supposedly dead and had that done when she became a field agent to protect her family. The ending is a trifle ambiguous, as I have a deplorable tendency to do, but all in all, I liked it, I enjoyed writing it, and [ profile] geckoholic saved me as usual with her MCU brainstorming brain.

I hope you enjoy!

So just realized I never talked about this one here.

This is the Job grew out of a lot of my initial research into the Intelligence Community and foreign operations I did for that Brandt fic in Not for Primetime. I was reading [ profile] findthesea's Fandom Growth Exchange letter and fell in love with a prompt for Brandt/Carter and their dark history and thought about a much earlier comment I made that IMF agents could quite easily be considered terrorists in other countries.

And out flowed this second person (I never write in 2nd, yikes) Jane Carter fic that was sectioned by a few cities and only includes a tiny bit of Brandt at the end and didn't make 2000 words. So not for FGE then and not expected.

I posted it and called it a day.

Special thanks to [ profile] alphaflyer, whose fic gave me something to aspire to and a feel for the kind of thing I wanted to create (whether or not you realized it :smiles: ).

So I wrote two exchange fics last month that were recently revealed.

The Room (Bad Blood/MCU)

I read my recipient's awesome letter and went and watched the music video for Bad Blood by Taylor Swift. Then I went back to the letter that said, doesn't this make you think Red Room? They were all women. But I also liked them as good guys and this was for Crossovering, so I decided they were the anti-Red Room, just like the Syndicate was the anti-IMF (in the trailer anyway), and then I decided Peggy Carter founded them and I never did get around to showing that Domino was Neena Thurman Domino and that Frostbyte was going to be the other Frost sister, but I did get halfway through the stuff I wanted to show that was playing through my head as I watched and listened over and over and over and over.

I also got to pretend that The Trinity did the procedure on Natasha from the David Hayter Black Widow screenplay and bring in a bunch of Agent Carter Red Room stuff with an unnamed Dottie cameo.

This is a fusion in the sense that Catastrophe, the main character of the music video, became Yelena Belova in my head. That was kind of the most fun part of all. I had a ball with this fic.

The facility has one enemy, the Red Room, and they are trained to take it down.

Kin (Escape to Witch Mountain)

Thank you, [ profile] vikingprincess, for the beta! I added a scene and cleaned up a bunch of stuff on her suggestions.

This was my, I'm writing the book not the movie, fic. This was my, why, AO3, do you think they're the same thing? fic. This was my I love the worldbuilding of the book better fic. This was my reason for signing up to Fic Corner.

Basically, the recip didn't have any particular requests for the book, so I just went with the first thing that popped in my head, which was Nellie Malone, their Granny, and her outsider POV raising them. Nellie never knew they had special powers, but she was their family, and I wanted to explore that a bit, especially since in the books, they were older when they left her than they were in the movie.

It's sweet, backstory, family fic. Sometimes that's exactly what I want to write.

Five Times They Were Just Friends and One Time They Weren't

I've been hankering to write Maria/Clint for a while (there's a ficlet about an accidental soulbond I've wanted to expand since I wrote the thing), so when this pinch hit came through, I snatched it up instantly. Then stalled out.

I have no less than three aborted drafts sitting in my Trello docket for me to finish later at some undefined future time.

I finally started writing a 5+1 falling asleep/sharing a bed fic and intended to toss in all the recipient's likes, such as slow build, competence, mission fic, friends to lovers, pining with a happy ending, friends with benefits... It went a little differently in the writing, as fics often do, and it's still a 5+1 with sleep/sleep space in all 5, but not in any consistent way.

I like it though, and I felt like I actually did it a little bit of justice and am starting to get comfortable enough with this pairing that the fics might turn out good if I keep at them, so there's that.

Story on AO3

Artwork by [ profile] stormbrite: LJ | AO3
scribblemyname: (maria hill)
So I resolved a while ago to talk a bit more when I announce fic I've posted.

I'm neck-deep in Tracing Trouble, due Friday with a lot of grace on the [ profile] heroinebigbang's mod, but it's so big, it's starting to feel unwieldy and hard to write, so I wandered through [ profile] comment_fic and wrote something to the first prompt that I could.

The prompt was any rare pairing, in the background, and immediately I thought of Maria Hill. [ profile] tielan and [ profile] frea_o made me fall in love with her and I often see [ profile] tielan wishing aloud that Maria wasn't so in the background. It's ironic to me how a woman whose face is at the very front of SHIELD is nevertheless in the background, in the shadows, and part of the wallpaper/setting/behind-the-scenes, and it feels almost as if that's deliberate on her part too.

Normally, I can't get a hold of movies to watch but I did very recently score a viewing of most of Age of Ultron and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So when I saw the prompt, Maria and Bucky were both on my mind. They both operate in the shadows during Winter Soldier—Fury specifically told Maria too—but both are also squarely in the spotlight.

The asset performed. He was out there, brazen, and hardly covert about who saw him doing what when he went after Natasha and Steve. Maria occupies a high position that makes her quite visible in SHIELD and the intelligence community. And yet, she was in shadows and he was a ghost. It's an interesting balance. I'm absolutely certain I didn't balance that in this story, but I did get to at least take a look at a tiny facet of this thing about them that intrigues me. So there's that.

"Maria Hill," he stopped and greeted when she would have passed him in the hall.

She paused, fingers stilling on her report but not clenching. Surprised perhaps but without fear. "Bucky Barnes," she said coolly, then assessed his reaction with an equally cool gaze.

So I was extremely blessed this exchange. I wanted fic for the firebird and got to both write fic about firebird stories and read two stories gifted to me about the firebird. I loved, loved, loved this exchange, even if I was whining via email about trying to write what I did.

I initially started off with a fandom-only prompt, so brainstormed a little with [ profile] hiddencait who suggested a crossover based on something in another prompt, then asked for a little more detail through a mod, and got back a few more ideas. Which almost all got chucked fairly immediately.

What I ended up writing was a fusion between three different stories that all felt similar to me, so "The Firebird and the Horse of Power and the Princess Vasilissa" (a variation on "The Firebird and the Princess Vasilisa"), "Tsarevitch Ivan and the Fire Bird and the Gray Wolf" (which always read to me like a variation of...), and "The Golden Bird" by Grimmm's.

I grew up on Grimm's (hardcover book from my dad), and the first story occupies a horse-story anthology I spent my own money on when I was still just a kid, and that middle story has names, wonderful names, and so of course, I had to fuse them all together and decide that things went wrong in the first story and the Tsar in "The Firebird and the Horse of Power and the Princess Vasilissa" would be one of Tsarevitch Ivan's older brothers/the gallows meat older brothers from "The Golden Bird" because he said he'd been waiting for a long time to marry Vasilissa, which implies history. As for Vasilissa not aging, she lives in the Land of Never (Neverland from Peter Pan anyone?) and the firebird's supposed to be hers in a way, so yeah.

I went wild, folded in a little "Story of the Phoenix," snuck in some princess of the golden palace/castle/dwelling references from "Faithful John," and dumped the entire story on my unsuspecting first reader, [ profile] hiddencait who gave me a thumbs up.

I'm glad to have written it, though it doesn't read quite as original/standalone as I'd initially hoped to make it. Fanfic it is. But it's good fanfic, and I hope you like.

Bourne Legacy: Mend

So there's this theme in The Bourne Legacy of lostness. It's used in different ways and that's part of why it resonated so well at the end of the movie for me when Marta says she was hoping they were lost. She spends so much of the movie a little lost and a lot broken and you can see that there was emotional/personal trauma before the events of the movie, then she went through a lot of trauma in it that isn't really glossed over. She's lost, she doesn't want to know, she shuts down Aaron when he asks her what she thinks they do out there, if she realizes the practical application of her "science."

"We were there for the science," she said.

"You cannot be that naive."

Throughout this movie, she wants to be lost, she doesn't want to look at things, but even in that, it changes from this broken, head-in-the-sand thing to knowing and choosing to turn away for something better and different and becomes healthy. It's fascinating. Thus, this fic.

It niggled and I looked and I got a bad date for Kate and Clint being there for her and there's history with Kate and why she became a hero in the first place and there's history with Clint and why Kate's history is something he didn't handle well in the comics in the past. This resulted.

He opens his mouth for one bad moment, and she jerks her head up, gaze locking on with something mute and accusatory, and he drops it, knowing.

Hawkeye: Legacy (or What's in Me is in You)

There's this panel in Fraction's run where Clint says what's in him is in Kate, and the prompt was "I'll be reaching for the stars with you; who cares no one else believes," which made me think of how Clint's the first to correct anyone who thinks of Kate as the junior half of their duo. He'll tease, "protege," but she's not junior or lady hawkeye or anything like that. She's Hawkeye just like he is.

Those thoughts just collided and here, have a ficlet.

"You're pretty awesome, Hawkeye," he tells her, breathes it out because Clint knows a good thing when he sees one and she's good, she's the best.

MCU: You and Me Both

I was shocked at how much response this Clint/Bobbi piece got. [ profile] geckoholic did the asking and it was looking for yourself in someone else, and here came this moment when I thought about what Bobbi was looking for in Clint and found. A lot of Bobbi/Hunter feels cropped up and rebounding and rebound sex and secrets and lies and what that means in a spy's spy's world and the fact that MCU Clint seems pretty good at the kind of comfort a spy's spy will accept. So here you go.

Bobbi doesn't want to admit it hurts and stings, the words going 'round and 'round in her head.

Bourne Legacy: Here Be Dragons

Marta, Aaron, PTSD, triggers, muscle memory, and sex. That's it in a nutshell. The prompt about off the map inspired both lostness and the feeling of there's no map to their bodies and their relationship when you consider what they came out of, but they make it work and work around the very real "dragons" that haunt them.

They sleep together before they sleep together. They navigate the dragon of her thrashing in the bed and Aaron learning to hush and wake her, not respond with reflexes programmed for war. They slay the dragon of his nightmares, her arms wrapped tenderly around him, her kiss on the back of his neck as he shudders because he cannot touch her there but it is one place he likes to be touched. They soothe the dragons under the skin of her wrists and the skin of his elbows where they were held down and restrained by those who sought to kill them.

So my Hawkeye and Hawkeye fic is no longer anonymous. I went through three plans for this and two or more iterations. [ profile] geckoholic gave me a generous beta and made the little things come together, besides handholding and bouncing ideas around because I needed ideas for how to spin something larger than the prompt of friendship and the Hawkeyes. They embody friendship and I just needed a little something more.

She gave me a new word for them: legacy. I hadn't really thought about it before we chatted how much alike they really are. Clint started around the same age Kate did, just earlier. No wonder he saw himself in her and mentors her, yeah, but is the first to point out to everyone else that she's his equal and he admires and looks up to her too. They teach each other.

There's multiple quotes bouncing around where Clint calls Kate his protege, usually teasingly. There's one scan I bumped into (don't quote me on where) where the title went the other way around and neither objected. That was really what inspired this fic.

He's her protege and she's his. According to the Hawkeyes anyway.

I suppose it's time to do that thing again, this time for the treats.

I admit, writing some of these was terrifying. Let's start with the really, really easy one.

"Playdate" was written for [ profile] frith_in_thorns because she asked for anything Peggy Carter, and one of the things I walked away from the finale with was, to me, a fascinating outsider POV of Peggy. Dottie Underwood (whose real name is not provided) seemed to treat Peggy as the only real possible threat, someone to essentially play the game with on her own level. Considering Dottie's upbringing (and Peggy's competence), this was not an unreasonable viewpoint. The double drabble was more an exploration of that take on Peggy, the US Black Widow if you will, than anything else. And if I managed to poke around Dottie's psyche a bit while I was at it, what can I say? :bats eyelashes:

Peggy Carter was like the other girls Vdova used to play with. She knew how to fight, how to spy, how to underplay expectations, and she was the only woman agent the SSR had, which meant she was their best.

Women in Espionage 101: Five Lessons Taught by Peggy Carter

I wrote "Women in Espionage 101: Five Lessons Taught by Peggy Carter" largely because I wanted to write something for [ profile] tielan because 1) her ficathon and it was kind of my thank you and 2) I just really like writing for her, okay?

[ profile] tielan is the reason I love Maria so much and she turned me onto and collabed on the most incredible Maria fic ever (and I imprinted hard on it for Natasha too, I'll admit), "Counterfeit and Counterpart." So when she mentioned continuity with Peggy and Maria and the boys club aspect of SHIELD and how they dealt with that and then the working out of their SHIELD work, let's just say I squeed and went hunting for a quote I remembered about history (and didn't find) and started building on the idea of the legacy Peggy passed on and what Maria did with it.

Let's just say I had a lot of feels about Peggy already from Agent Carter and I just dumped them in with my feels about Maria and how people dish so much unjustice on her for doing her job and disagreeing with Fury and not liking the idea of the Avengers. But she wasn't entirely wrong. So out bubbled this little fic and a lot of things I wanted to acknowledge as good in Maria that I think get bashed too often.

"Never underestimate a woman," Carter told Maria on her first day of working for her. "Not yourself or anyone else."

Deep in the Throes

This fic, this fic. "Deep in the Throes" was my first treat planned for [ profile] frith_in_thorns and the last finished. To use Yuletide terms, I was chased by bears the whole entire time.

Okay, it started out nice with some snippets from the beginning and end and one in the middle. Hurt/comfort, developing friendship, Maria being the one to comfort her. The first real scene I wrote was Natasha leaning on Maria in the corner of the bedroom.

How did she get there? Deprogramming. My serious headcanon for a while has been that Maria did that for Natasha, and if I was a good girl, I'd do the research to figure out which story gave me that, but I won't because it would take some digging.

Nice little idea, mix in a little of the stuff still churning back in my muse from "One More Day," and then next thing you know, the entire story kind of explodes on me and I'm trying to figure out how I got in over my head.

I still don't know how well the third chapter turned out because it's not my specialty to say the least and this fic made me grow and stretch and work as a writer, and I couldn't even try to keep my style out of it because writing like me was the only way it was going to get finished at all. But it did get finished.

I ended up really mixing in the song "Who Will Save You Now?" that was already percolating another Natasha fic in my head, and that I'll probably still write. I had to keep playing that song to get back in tone for the fic and to help me brainstorm, and I tried to stick to it thematically, which helped a lot.

The recipient was particularly not interested in Clint as a character, so I had to work with his obvious importance to her recruitment while generally minimizing his presence, which worked because it helped me focus on Maria.

So that's the story of this story. This story. I'm still exhausted from writing it and still haven't read the whole thing in another one sitting because yeah. I was so done.

"Coffee always makes me feel better." It was Nespresso, the good stuff that Maria didn't share with anybody, even Coulson, however often he begged.

Natasha looked between her and the coffee, then finally set her book on the blanket and took it.
