scribblemyname: (if this is rescue)

  1. I have officially tried big bangs. They don't work very well for me, at least not on the front of stress, fic that's high enough quality for what I like to produce, or anything close to satisfying original fiction. The more research required, the worse off I am. I have one successful fic from a big bang, and that's Transition, the tropeyiest MI4 fic to probably ever trope (friends in denial to lovers, baby acquisition, kidfic, with animal transformations). The original fic suffered badly from lack of time to push through the plotty actiony bits (you know, the stuff I suck at writing), and the other fic didn't even happen. :laughs sorrowfully:

  2. That said, due to big bangs being very much not. my. thing., I am not going to attempt NanoWrimo this year, and that's that.

  3. That said, I've been doing poorly at getting back on the original fiction pony, and [livejournal.com profile] trovia's and thecatisacritic's gift fics have suffered as a result. My confidence went by way of sandusky with aforementioned failed original fic big bang fic and so I've been trying pretty desperately to get it back. A few snippets and a start on a fic off to the incomparably wonderful [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue have helped, but I wouldn't call myself out of the woods yet. So sorry, you two. I am the worst of friends when it comes to giving fic. Honestly, I'm soooo blessed you all love me anyway.

  4. Speaking of which, I swear all that fic I've promised you, [livejournal.com profile] geckoholic, is eventually coming. I even have snippets!

  5. And all that said, I'm thinking if I'm smart, I'll hit my bingos and my orginal fiction in the open period between wrapping the exchanges I have and Yuletide.

  6. But there's that fic for [livejournal.com profile] findthesea I've been headbanging on... And treats! And all that Rogue/Remy fic I still haven't gotten back to this year. And all that original fic.

So that's the random update on the crazy overextended plate that is my perennial lot. Love you all and hope you are wiser than I. :hugs:
scribblemyname: (apply fanfic?)
I have FORTY-SEVEN prompts stashed on my docket!?

Some are even in progress. :headdesk:
scribblemyname: (buried: under the rubble)
And all due before film camp, which starts the week of the 24th.

  1. Transition (MI4, Will/Jane): Somehow this bang fic became animal transformations, Jane gets her own team, and babyfic all in one. Plus accidental, slow build relationship because she ends up helping Will raise his acquired kid. Sequel to a Yuletide fic and I'm seriously glad the artist likes this because it's so tropey, I wonder if anyone will ever read it.

  2. 128 Stage (The Unusuals, Beaumont/Walsh + Casey/Davis with an emphasis on the Walsh + Casey): AU in that Casey starts out as actual hooker (not pretending to be one) and he's actual diner owner (not diner resident/cop) and he accidentally acquires a barista while the two of them deal with relationships and life kind of thing. I wrote a prequelish to it for [livejournal.com profile] shipswap.

  3. Tracing Trouble (Kingdoms and Thorn, Cate/Marc + Killinger/Hasheni): This one boils down to, don't mess with Cate's family, but a lot of other stuff going on under the surface as she tenatively moves forward with trusting Marc more, and the whole mess of Thorn's underhanded way of getting a toehold in the kingdoms gets explored a lot more.

And not due but halfway written anyway...

  1. Tying the Knot (Hawkeye, Clint/Kate + Natasha): So Kate goes to Natasha to learn how to tie Clint up. Sequel to the five times experimentation fic where it was really, really clear that Clint liked bondage.

  2. Not Memory (or Along Came a Spider) (Leverage/MCU, Parker + Natasha): Parker's side of the meeting Natasha again in my Red Room crossover, wherein I also decided Parker and Dottie were related.

  3. Awesome exchange fic for [livejournal.com profile] mcu_aufest I can't talk about but is sooo much fun.

  4. Exchange fic for [livejournal.com profile] jukebox_fest that has me kind of freaking out about it. Am I biting off waaay more than I can chew? Due very shortly after return from camp, so high priority to get done.

And totally not due but knocking on the brain cells (am ignoring you):

  • Robbing the Cradle (616, Natasha/Kate/Clint): because in 616, she really was a bit of a cradle-robber with Clint and he was Kate's age when he got started and she fell for him and then here comes Kate and she's that age now and they are soooo alike and I can see the attraction and because "The Art of Human Relations" was fun to write and I blame this totally on you, [livejournal.com profile] findthesea!

And then there are my other two original projects, one with a headspace that promises productivity when I can attend to it and one without.

Ah well. I just needed to get this list off my chest.
scribblemyname: (calligraphy)
Floating an idea just to see if this holds any interest for anyone but me. A lot of us fanficcers are original ficcers too and I don't know about you, but I am both

1) motivated by gift exchanges
2) more thrilled by fanfic than a review

Would anyone be interested in an exchange (time of year uncertain) where original ficcers could nominate any of their freely available (with coupon code or password fine) fiction or narrative poetry and then either write for it and/or receive fic for it?

I know there are a few folks I know who I love requesting fic of and love writing fic for their worlds. I was over the moon the two times I got fanfic written of my own stuff. I also accomplish far more original fiction when someone's prompting me.

Is this just me? Would anyone else be interested?
scribblemyname: (buried: under the rubble)
So I finally opt to go with the Carrington atomic method and implement the Carrington blog theme on my tester site so I can do what I need to do. One of the most popular themes in town and it doesn't pass theme check.

:headdesk:

I think I'm going to ignore all the dozens of errors (except missing required elements) and go with it anyway.

:grumble, grumble, grumble:

On a sidenote, I need to start posting the personal stuff here more often. It's been too long since I went chatty on y'all and I've kind of missed that.

Safe is under the pen again, getting some love on the next chapter. I wish I hadn't started another chaptered fic, solely because I really need to be working on updating the Vardin ebook files and launching the collection print edition—not a fanfic. But I miss my fanfic peoples! And I have too many ideas, for fanfics, for stories, for income streams, for articles. Too much, too much.

:shakes head at self: Then again, what else is new?

Hopefully, the stuff I've been working on will bring it all back into order soon. Hopefully.
scribblemyname: (isabel: yellow)
From [livejournal.com profile] trovia and [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter. I asked for both; I've got to give.

Make up a title for a story I didn't write and I will respond with details of those non-written stories.

Lunacy?

I'm seriously considering signing up for [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang, which I shouldn't, since I've never finished a fandom bang and probably shouldn't. It does not put food on the table and I've got my hands full with Safe.

Right.

Well, in a word, busy. Playing catch-up. Working, reading, writing, editing (thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue!), submitting, etc.

Honestly, I'm still on the fence with what I'm going to do with my WIP fanfics and how I want to publish my original fiction. Submitting is great, but it locks up my stories for a long time. Some I'd rather just collect and publish independently, but at the same time, if the periodicals did buy them, I'd get a whole lot better cash flow.

Read some great stuff today: to all mutual friends of [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter, hie thee over and read her original short story; it's amazing.

Also, sending hugs and blessings to those on my f-list I haven't said anything to recently (that whole where in the world have I been bit): [livejournal.com profile] trovia, [livejournal.com profile] stormkpr, [livejournal.com profile] xenokattz, [livejournal.com profile] mwffj, [livejournal.com profile] whipsy, [livejournal.com profile] ashmanda, [livejournal.com profile] alexmonalisa, [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil, [livejournal.com profile] pygmymuse, [livejournal.com profile] rogue437, etc. Have fun and be blessed!

Go figure. I guess it's all I'm up for. But I've been playing around in the sandboxes and I'm feeling like a traitor and felt like letting it off my chest.

To my lovely fics:

I do love you, oh fandom goodness! You taught me more about writing than my original fiction ever did (scary thought), but my interest is waning. Apparently, it takes characters as strong as Rogue and Gambit to hold my interest for long periods and I've been away from them for too long. I've been flirting with original fic and I think I'm going pretty steady now, but...

I have obligations. I promised not to leave my readers hanging forever (just indefinitely), and I've got too many fics I don't feel good about walking away from.

I know we've always agreed that writing is promiscuous and all that, but something's starting to get a little hard here in the juggling act.

To Vardin and the world of Summerlight:

I love you. You're ensemble and interesting and wonderful, and yet I'm not sure I know where you want to go and that scares me. I need something from you before I feel comfortable moving forward. I know we're both kind of new to this particular story, but we've been around the block over a dozen times before and afterward. Please show me the glue on this baby.

To the multitude of shorts begging me to write nonSummerlight Vardin:

Could you please, pretty please, be kind enough to wait your turn? Please?

To the Mirror:

Wow. You sort of showed up one day, threw every constant of my writing on its head and demanded satisfaction. Well, lovely little storyworld, you need to be patient and wait your turn like everybody else. No matter how many awesome stories and themes and characters you throw at me, no matter how many subplots and fascinating bits of worldbuilding possibility, I'm writing Vardin right now and I really need to focus.

Okay?

Okay.

Now that we have that off our chest...
scribblemyname: (dozing)
I've been excited to see all the Nano folks on my f-list. Love you all. Well wishes. Hoping not to lurk so badly after this meeting is over. (It's tonight and we're hitting production on a movie. A movie!) No promises. I also don't want so much pressure on myself, so...

Track all exact word counts of newly written material. Throw up all as scribbles on this journal. Exclude meta. See what happens.

All will be untimed scribbles. There will be no discrimination provided to fandom or original work or pen name.

And I've got a new one! Pearl Wise. Story on sub. Think good thoughts.

Here goes!
scribblemyname: (mind over matter)
Then pray hard. I'm less than 3 hours from not being able to get this [livejournal.com profile] ladies_fest fic out the door on time and I've got a last-second beta waiting for it.

:headdesk:

I officially hate this prompt. It inspired me for that much and then left me hanging out to dry.
scribblemyname: (crossover fic)
List 14 things in fandom you have never done.

In no particular order...

1. Written porn without plot.
2. Created fanwork for one of my favorite six works of written fiction (Dream Voyagers, The Brother's Keeper, Ingathering, Joseph, A Ring of Endless Light, and The Guardian—possibly Emma).
3. Created a fanmix.
4. Created a fanvid.
5. Completed a fic longer than 30,000 words.
6. Filled out a bingo card.
7. Completed a crossover fic.
8. Created crossover art.
9. Finished organizing all my fiction.
10. Kept an updating schedule that was both sane and consistent.
11. Written a mutation-free Marvel AU.
12. Written a Rogue/Logan pairing fic.
13. Written a fandom-influential fic (see #5).
14. Written in somebody else's fandom universe.

Finally, launching. Now, just to get a beta I can run the gauntlet of Summerlight through 1000 words a week.

Any takers?

Also, should I crosspost all entries over here, some, or none? Thoughts? (don't want to spam you all)

Meme from [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce:

I will post the names of all the files in my WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Choose one (ish), and I will post a random line or two.

I have multiple WIP folders, but here goes on ONE. My older one that I still drop stuff into all the time.

[I cheated.]

1. Amazon

I've never liked them. I wasn't really sure why until MacMillan. And now, I'm doing independent publishing, seeking to start up my own serial (and have some real ideas for it), and learn this. [Click the link and scroll down to "From the Office: Amazon is Nobody's Friend, Part One."]

2. Summerlight

4. Tribes

I love Tribal Writer. But her post today still left me flailing in the one way I haven't figured out how to fix, except for in fandom. [Until fandom pays, however, I do need to figure this out!]

Figure out who your people are.

Talk to them. Create for them. And only them.

That is how I felt today when I come back from lunchtime munchables and found my poor baby internet had died ignobly, given up the ghost, and taken most of my work for the afternoon with it.

:headdesk:

Well, it's back and higher speed than we've had before with a new router that's not supposed to die at random intervals. Yay!

In the meantime, what have we done with ourselves? (Yes, I know. I use the royal 'we.' This is a trait that can be annoying but not easily discarded.)

Well...

1. We made a handful of our [livejournal.com profile] pairing20in20 icons. The whole set is due by the 3rd, but Emma/Charles is quite interesting to pull off.

2. We completed the front and back cover and three and a half pages of the comic, Darkholme & Xavier, Vol. 1, "The Baby and the Bath Water."

3. Before the internet died, we reformatted and calameo'd about 7 fics.

4. We're working on our website and will soon have a lovely network of the LJ, original fiction WP, grammar whore WP, writing LJ, and FF. Soon is relative.

5. Did RL work. Some. It's tough to do when most of it is supposed to be done online.

6. Read "Conflict of Interests" by [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter. If you haven't read it yet, hie thee over and get yourself an eyeful. This is awesome.

:hugs to all:
