I used to have a paid Yahoo! mail account. The only reason I paid for it was so that I could download messages into Outlook so I didn't need to use their website to read my mail. Once gmail allowed that as a free service, I decided to cancel the paid version of Yahoo! mail.
The instructions on how to cancel a paid account led to a broken page, so I had to call customer support to cancel. Of course, they tried to talk me out of it.
Now my Yahoo! mail account is little more than an aggregator of garbage from people I don't care about. Their spam filtering has improved a little bit, but I don't like the interface at all, so I never check it. The only reason I still have an account there is because I use their instant messenger as a standalone. That's been going downhill for the past four or five years, although I still far prefer it to any other IM program. I imagine they'll do away with it eventually, and then I won't have any more need for Yahoo services. It will make me happy when that day comes.
