Fluff, Relationships, and Traditions
So characters have habits, ways they interact with certain people and situations, things they do and like to do, stories and histories together. I've known a lot of my characters' for a long time but getting them all into fic is interesting, particularly for the ones I don't know that for.
I've got about five novelettes I want to turn out plus a short story, created out of the 5 Things Meme and then the whole Pieter/Ashen dynamic that originally played in my head before I even wrote that first Ashen drabble (and it is awesome to me, but got sidelined drastically with a deluge of other prompts), but, but, but...
I'm on day 265 of my challenge and story count 157 and I'm still plying angles and there's all those little things above that I'm itching to nibble at. Want to help a girl out?
Particularly of interest to me are things like where does Wesley work (not sure actually), and then relationship things that I haven't gotten to like how Justus always recognizes Shift regardless of her current form or demeanor, friendships, sibling relationships, Ilsa and her husband, etc.
Calling for prompts, as promised:
- character(s) and/or canon/fandom
- random word, quote, or other prompt
Oh, and I'll try to keep it short and fluffy or sweet. Try is the operative word. :grins:

Kingdoms and Thorn Ficlet: The Leash
It was a strange feeling to know they had won. This was war, not a mission, and they had won—defeated their masters. He reached up and rubbed the back of his neck. The taste of Shift was still in him. She chose well her intolerable risks.
He picked his way through the pallets and dropped to a crouch beside one. Long auburn hair tangled across the Database's sleeping back. He said sotto voice, "Cipher."
Her body tensed. Realizing it was him, she rolled over to look at him.
"Can you take it out?" he asked quietly.
The fact that he spoke his request drew Sear's attention and the Database's reluctant look. But she slid out of her sleeping bag and wrapped one hand around the back of his neck and placed the other palm flat in the center of his chest. Intangibility, healing. She could be anything she wanted to be.
He felt the moment her borrowed abilities kicked in and his own healing ability kicked in, melding them together at the same time her hand went through his neck and removed the implant buried in his central nervous system. Agonized pain. He didn't move, didn't flinch or react—he'd felt worse vicariously so often. If he moved, the healing wouldn't work, the removal wouldn't be clean, and he would die. It was as simple as that.
Then it was over and she was healing him with yet another power. She let go.
He felt lightheaded but alive. He looked at the chip in her hand, his former leash, and simply nodded. "Thank you."

And yes, he needed the full freedom.
Re: Kingdoms and Thorn Ficlet: The Leash
They all did. They all deserved to be free.
Well, other than the psychos that have been off-screen so far.
Re: Kingdoms and Thorn Ficlet: The Leash
:blinks:
I'm not sure I'd characterize them that way so much as beyond rehabilitation. They are weapons. It's not entirely their fault.
There was one girl I felt for a lot because as much as one of the admins I like a lot (might write her eventually) tried to reach her and almost did, they could never make the connection of forgiveness. That's the huge thing here: could they forgive? If they could, they could move on. If they couldn't... Well.
Re: Kingdoms and Thorn Ficlet: The Leash
They do have to be able to let it go or they couldn't move on. Not all of them have moved on as much as others, but that would be hard to forgive.
