1. I'm actually losing mail in Yahoo because it works so poorly now. I can't organize it, find it, or deal with it. I'm seriously considering signing up to Writing.com just for the email.
2. I've been chaptering and working on the collaboration fic. It's going well. One thing at least is.
3. What's with the new email updates, FF.net? They don't list fandom in the email title. I never know anymore if I want to open it or not.
4. To all internet services everywhere: can we please stop reducing functionality and calling it an upgrade? Please?

You can ungroup in full mode too, though I may try Basic again. Last time I tried it, it was so broken it didn't even display email messages, let alone all the sorting tools. They claim my browsers are supported, but I ain't seeing it.

Yeah, I had mine ungrouped in full mode. The problem with the endless scrolling is that aside from plain out not being useful, the default page takes forever to load, and my laptop is so ancient and cranky it doesn't have the bones for that kind of nonsense any more. Out of curiosity, which browsers are you using?

At work I have Firefox 25 which works fine, so that's why I'm pretty much of the opinion that their "supported" browsers list is flat wrong and have told them so.

Time to move along to something else, then. I won't be at all surprised if Yahoo is out of the email/instant messenger business within a year or two anyway. They suck, to put it bluntly. Their customer support is laughable, their products are abysmal, and they're floundering to find their identity as a company. There are many alternatives out there for email, good luck finding one that suits you.

I'm floundering a bit. Classic worked fabulous and I hated the rest of the providers. None of them have exactly improved either, but now Yahoo has downgraded to as bad and worse and their support has always been terrible. I haven't really figured out how I'm going to move, especially more than a decade's worth of emails. :headdesk:

I've been perfectly content with gmail, ads and all. The beautiful thing about it, for me, is that you can have it retrieve mail from other accounts easily (that's something Yahoo charges extra to do, going in either direction). So you can set it up to get your mail from Yahoo until everything's switched over. Or forever. You can keep your Yahoo mail with its ten years of history and use it as a backup, especially if things are already organized in folders the way you like.

But I know you can't stand gmail, so forget I said anything, ha.

Can you export your email from gmail to something like Outlook for free?

And does the syncing handle folders.

Yeah, one of the reasons I switched to gmail in the first place was because I could sync to Outlook (which I don't use any more). I didn't see the point in paying Yahoo $20 a year for that privilege. I don't remember if it retains folders or not, that might be a function of Outlook worth investigating. I wouldn't be surprised if it does.

In the back of my mind I think there might be some premium gmail features, but I've never had use for them. They give you plenty of storage space from the start, and the availability has generally been excellent. Much more reliable than Yahoo.

(In looking at the settings on gmail, it appears that yes, gmail-to-Outlook should support folders and syncing.)

Could be worth it to open a Gmail, funnel all my old stuff to Outreach, then have all my new emails go to my personal domain accounts. I hate 1and1's email interface, but most of my email goes there already; I just have it forwarded to Yahoo because until lately, I could easily organize email through Yahoo and not through 1and1.

Outlook was the best tool I found for organizing. One thing that's a little bizarre about gmail is that it doesn't use folders. Instead, it uses labels. Its organizing system takes a while to get used to but like everything else, given time, it works itself out.

If nothing else, it's free to investigate. I can't remember if I tried porting my Yahoo mail over to gmail, because I already had most of it in Outlook from the time I had a paid account. Since losing mail is one of my pet peeves, I never minded having a lot of redundant backup systems. I actually have multiple gmail accounts and forward them all to my primary account so I don't have to check each one individually.
