Dear Jukebox Fest Author

Thank you sooo much for writing me fic! I am just so appreciative of whatever you write for me based on these songs, and I want you to love your fic more than I want me to love it.

General squicks, triggers, and loves by category.

General:

I like deep characterization and backstory, family, deep platonic bonds, worldbuilding, chosen family, digging into a character's mental/emotional space, asexual romance, romance, established relationships, developing trust, character studies, identity exploration, character competence, fluff, angst, and situational humor.

Please don't write embarrassment, graphic violence or gore, body-related humor, betrayal/infidelity, tragedy/deathfic, horror, character or ideology bashing, PWP (with plot, more than fine), first person fic, on-screen uncensored profanity. I also have no problem with assassination but do have a problem with murder. I know. Fine line.

I like soulmates, soulmarks (not names), soulbonds, secret relationship, sharing a bed, domestic fic, holiday fic, arranged marriage, fake marriage, friends to lovers, rivals to lovers, AIs, accidental relationships, time travel with consequences, animal transformations/shapeshifter, brainwashing, amnesia. I like well thought out crossovers and the occasional fusion, canon-divergent AUs more than total AUs.

Fandoms

And We Run by Within Temptation (Song)

There is so much raw pain and freedom and yes, love, in these lyrics and I want to meet this character, see their story, see this emotional arc unfold.

Wish I could be more helpful on this one but there is nothing about the potential in these lyrics I don't love. Someone's breaking free and experiencing love for the first time, not necessarily in a romantic sense, and the running and escape can mean so many things, literal or symbolic. And a character that can say,

"You could never wear my crown
Cause it weighs too much
And I crush
Every muthafuckin thing I touch"

is a strong character I want to know a lot more about.

Blank Space by Taylor Swift (Music Video)

The character is in this video fascinates me: her house, her pets, her sense of luxury, her painting (as magic), her glamor, and her sense of fun. She seems to really enjoy the guy and then it all goes south.

The lyrics make me wonder if it ever will be "forever," if she's really looking for that, or if there will always be the opportunity to "tell me when it's over if the high was worth the pain."

It's just so fun and dangerous and a little dark all at once and I want more.

Please no deathfic or horror.

Hearts Without Chains by Ellie Goulding (Song)

I just love the story here, the feeling of urgency of the ticking clock, separation, longing, and obviously that nothing is solid and set in this relationship at the moment. It's an established relationship and there's a lot of history in the way things are worded, but there's unfinished business and open-endedness and it feels like a turning point I desperately want to read/know more about.

Feel free to go deep platonic love, asexual romance, or romance at any rating.

Black Roses by Clare Bowen (Song)

This song gets to me so hard. I know it was initially written for lovers, but then it was applied on performance to family, and I can't help but think of brothers and loyalty and broken families and someone coming out stronger on the other side. Honestly, go wherever the song moves you. I've seen it applied so many ways, but every story it seems to tell has been one I loved.

Dust to Dust by Civil Wars (Music Video)

I adore the lyrics for this song and there is so much story in the music video, and I am soo curious about both of the characters—about the letter, their separate paths they walk, the ways they intersect, whether there's history there or it's all an initial encounter, all the details and possibilities, and especially the laughter and opening up.

I adore deep platonic love, chosen family, or romance, so wide open. I love intimate stories or sprawling ones, but this one feels so intimate and close, and I'd love to have that feel in the writing as well, if possible.
