And I also love the tail reference. I miss Trance's tail.

Trance is an earthling and her and Harper escape together

I do adore her tail. I remember imagining once these little technological geniuses running around under foot while Daddy snags one out of the conduits by her tail.

Still a cute visual.

"If you think you aren't freckled, you're delusional."

Felise hefted her wrench speculatively and considered whether she could apply it to Enadar's head before Alik caught on. At least she wasn't considering using bone blades on him.

The ship hummed suspiciously, and she sighed and applied the wrench more appropriately to the broken part he'd approved her using it on.

"For the record, Alik," she told him, ignoring Enadar, who now looked miffed. "You are too fussy. He'd be improved by a little training in diplomacy with females."

Alik's hologram appeared. "That is unacceptable."

She shot him an absent glare then dug into her work as she pointed out, "I didn't do it."

In another part of the ship, Malina sighed at another of Alik's suspicious complaints. "She likes him, Alik."

"On the contrary, they never pass time in the same room without arguing."

Malina just shook her head at him, knowing better.

"I lost a good gun once," Jayne said sympathetically, looking off into some memory before shrugging and swigging down some more alcohol. "Vera could blow a hole in a starship."

Tyr leaned both arms on the counter and picked up his glass. "Then you have to break in a new one."

Jayne scowled and shook his head.

"I had it for a decade," Tyr added.

They shared a commiserating glance and emptied their glasses together.

That would be adorable.

And should be fic.

Lol.

Someone had this icon that said, "I ship Firefly canon" and was a gif that cycled through Mal/Inara, Zoe/Wash, and Simon/Kaylee plus Jayne/Vera.

Tyr lost his gun in an episode and got angry because it was a good gun.

And this is just perfect for the two of them. :)

I love Malina's knowing. Alik missing the true nature of their interactions. Him being overprotective. Enadar being Enadar.

Little purple tailed engineer babies/kids roaming the ship.

"Harper!" Rommie's voice was sharp and disapproving.

He pulled himself out from under the sensor bot he was repairing and shot her a wary look. "Yeah."

She had her arms crossed and looked as disapproving as she sounded. "There is something small and purple crawling in my ducts, and I want it removed."

"Hey! Her," Harper protested. "And where's Trance?"

"Corralling the other three in Hydroponics," Rommie answered promptly. "Trance said you were supposed to keep an eye on this one, so go get her." She spun on her heel and went back out of the machine shop.

Harper grumbled as he clambered to his feet. "Do this, Harper. Go there, Harper. Fish the cute little purple kiddies out of wherever they've teleported to next, H—"

"Harper."

"Ah!" He fell back surprise. It was just Andromeda's hologram, raising an eyebrow at him. "Don't scare people like that. What?"

"Your children can't teleport, can they?"

"What? No." He thought about that. They couldn't, right?

He found the giggling little girl, not even five years old, hanging off a ladder by her tail. He pulled her up by her tail to an offended shriek.

"Daddy!"

He kissed her nose. "Come on, little bit. Time to go play gardener."

"Aww, Daddy." She gave him the big blues.

He tried to look stern. "None of that. Rommie doesn't want you playing here."

"That's right, Harper. Make me the villain." And there went that disapproval again.

"Ignore your Auntie Rommie. She just needs some space."

The tone went flatter. "I'm not her aunt."

His daughter just went back to giggling.

Oh, that is adorable!

I tried to do this and got very... I suppose the word for it is sidetracked. The lead-in is longer than the actual part and still not pre-series because I just got a few lines of dialogue between current Beka and Harper. :(

Would Vred be a problem solving type who rids his family of enemies or a lone survivor of a destroyed pride? With the way Nietzcheans work, I'd have to wonder if they'd make him cull the weak from their herds, as it were, and I can't see Vred being wiling to do that.

Or would Vred be another avatar?

Hmm.

(Obviously this story has eaten my brain a little (a lot) and I have all these thoughts... There's a part where someone calls Vred Alik's captain and he gets offended because he doesn't need one and I can picture a bit of dialogue between the two of them about that, too, but that only works if Vred is not an android. Hmm.)

Is she still purple? She could be a mixed breed of some kind, maybe.

Not that her being human is a bad thing, but I admit to partiality to the purple tailed Trance.
