Random Thoughts
- I adore arugula. It is one of the scrumptiest leafy greens on the planet. (Spoken from one who generally dislikes anything bitter.)
- There should be a book: how to anthologize fiction and poetry. If I ever figure it out, I'll write it.
- I love the rain—outside only and in moderation.
- I have a few favorite authors right now (besides the one who hasn't published her amazing and gorgeous books yet so I can smotheringly recommend them to all my friends: M.C.A. Hogarth, Rabia Gale, Melanie Edmonds, and Kabobbles Publishing.
- Linear chronology is overrated. Case in point: With Fate Conspire by Marie Brennan. Apparently, sleep is also overrated.
- Sometimes I can't write until I figure out my world. Sometimes I can't figure out my world until I write.

Sometimes I can't write until I figure out my world. Sometimes I can't figure out my world until I write.
Agh, so true!!
Btw, how are you? =)

Good to hear from you! Hope your world is drier than mine and happy.

Linear chronology is overrated. <-- Look at me grinning.
I read that last bullet point as "Sometimes I can't sleep until I figure out my world." That's probably true too, wouldn't you say? Especially since it would go with "Sometimes I can't figure out my world until I sleep."

I almost mentioned Denny. I came this close. That's the first time I realized this important rule of reading/writing.
You know: that is a good point. :nods thoughtfully:

Also, Denny says hey.

And I love your last bullet. It speaks to me.

It always drives me batty when I think I need to do one and it turns out I should've been doing the other. :le sigh:

I have no idea about anthologies, either. I'd just stick all my stories in one in chronological order, and if I had poetry (which I don't because I suck at it) I'd have some lame piece that I thought tied the last two prose bits together. Not much help, though with the Kingdoms and Thorn stuff, I might be able to make some suggestions about order or connection. I wish I could be more help.
I need linear chronology. Trying to work out of order or even just read my own stuff out of order is confusing me. (I blame Quinn. As much as I love the characters, I am just about ready to chuck that one out because the story won't stick to one or even two timelines.)
My friend told me I wrote as a way of understanding the world. I never know the extent of my story's world until I write it, and I don't know how much understanding I get for my world from my writing (very little, I fear.)
Still, I think as much as one can plan out a world or envision it in one's head, there's always a bit that sneaks in when its written... Or maybe it's just that the words never live up to what I see.

No worries. It'd be a lot less of a problem if chronology was what prompted me to write stuff in the first place.
I say, to each what works best. I know my entire story's highlights, so it works best for me to write the most vivid, interesting parts and gap-fill, but I've always been a bit unusual in my writing process. I also write thin and have to go back and layer in more all the time.
There always is more worldbuilding in writing. It's like you can learn everything about a process by watching and listening and taking notes, but when you're doing it, you always learn more.

I always have to know where people came from to know how they get to where they end up, so that's part of me needing the chronology.
I used to try and gap fill, and there are a few stories where I wrote the interesting bits, but it took me so long to complete them or having the interesting bits made it impossible to complete because after writing the beginning, the interesting part no longer fit. So I save those if I can, try and use them as rewards to do the parts I don't like as much.
I do write/edit in layers. I always find a bit more I can add when I read stuff over. That's part of the reasons none of my stories ever seem to be edited enough.
There is. Then again, we never stop learning, right?
