Enadar managed to swallow and look over at Kailyn, trying not to gag or puke up the bile in his throat. He didn't understand. That was Felise. That was the girl he called Freckles and who spilled lemonade on him and who was so infuriating and he wished he could get away with pulling on her hair again.
“Right. Prank. Of course it's a prank. What else would it be?” Enadar said gloomily. He didn't believe this. How could his soul mate be Felise Revente? He hated the Reventes. He didn't care if his sister was best friends with Lisea. He wasn't friends with Reventes, and Alik wasn't, either.
That was it. He had to go find Alik. “Felise has this mark on her back.” Alik looked at him. “Your point?”
“It's a soul mark.”
“It's a bruise. You know I don't believe in that sort of thing. There is no such thing as a soul mate.”
Enadar frowned. He knew Alik had weird ideas about things, but this was new. “Since when do you not believe in soul mates? Wait, don't tell me—your soul mark says you're going to marry that girl that couldn't keep her hands off you—”
“I do not have a soul mark, and you are overreacting. Just because someone has a similar mark to you does not mean that she is meant for you. Or you for her. I pity the girl who ends up with you.”
“I hate you,” Enadar grumbled. “And I am so not surprised that you don't have a soul mark. No one would ever want a Robot for a soul mate.”
