  1. 12 poems and 70 lines, crossposted nothing

  2. 6 unrevealed ficlets and 1 just not crossposted

  3. a scene list sort of thingy on my WIP

Not what I was hoping but not half bad. I was hoping to get more down on WIP. I know where I’m heading with it, just haven’t had time/energy/headspace to get it down yet.

I’ve also finished getting a PDF file ready of What Lies Before, a collection of original short stories, which I will get into download access and possibly a gumroad before I try and figure out how to actually publish it properly, because that last sounds more tiring than it ought.

Still, that’s prepped, which is great.

I also pulled 5 pieces out of first access into freely available, so I’ll get there on posting links to those soon too.

On the health front, I went to a new doctor yesterday for insurance reasons to establish care, who is willing to keep my other doctor in the loop, which is awesome. And lo! There is hope for me yet. I have a structural issue apparently that’s preventing my getting enough oxygen or draining stuff the way I should, which technically I always kind of knew. From childhood, my breathing options were constrained, I just didn’t realize they meant I’m literally never getting enough oxygen, and I’ve always been so stuffed up, I can barely smell.

Shocker. These things have health consequences, so my doctor gave me a potential nonsurgical option to check out, which I will do as soon as we wrap up all this car and post-vacation business. Because quality of life! Not dragging around tired and depressed all the time! This would be good!

About that, CAR! I loved our beautiful, old faithful, 2005 sedan but it was… time to retire it. We got a new car on Friday, which has eaten a chunk into budget and time bank, but so worth it. A beautiful Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and I will eventually get used to how her responsiveness differs greatly from the sedan. Mostly, I will eventually stop turning on the windshield wipers when I’m trying to reverse because our gear shaft is now in between the seats instead of on the steering wheel. I drove like an amateur yesterday on my first time out in her. Oh well.

Hope you’re all doing well! Lots of love!

So I was horrible at running Patreon and crossposting last year and here’s hoping to be slightly better. I intend to take everything posted on first access in 2019 and make it free by the end of the month.

Posted for first access ($1/mo.) today are three poems, all written today:

  1. labelsI could be bold / like the colors of ancient crayons / unlikely adjectives sprawled / over the yellow labels…

  2. a namecall me something, anything, / I used to say, / as though just having a name / was good, though it wasn’t…

  3. lamp on the woodbright lamp on the wood beside my window / keeping watch with steady eye and yellow…

Available for free on website and AO3, fanfic:

  1. In Small Moments (Bourne Movies): Nicky Parsons/Jason Bourne – The asset wasn’t known for tender compassion or warmth. If he was, Nicky assumed, he wouldn’t be an asset. But there was a certain amount of liability in being an obvious plant that disappeared at irregular intervals, always when someone of import within the country died, and there was something to be said for the traditional old standbys for covers. [on AO3], [on website]

The last was written for Happy Belated Treatmas 2019 for Ashling, who prompted arranged marriage and tenderness and hurt/comfort and upon discovering Bourne was an option, this AU just sprang into my head, basically because arranged marriage fit so well with the whole undercover asset thing and having a relationship that was both professional and intensely personal. I really loved stepping back into Nicky’s head for a minute and was really happy the recipient liked it.

I’ll get my other Treatmas fics crossposted soonish.

A New Year

Jan. 1st, 2020 03:37 am
scribblemyname: (yata misaki)

I could totally do goals! I could. I had a good 2019 for writing goals, bad on some fronts, but better than if I hadn’t had the goals.

2019’s Writing Goals:

  1. Finish 1000 poems

  2. Finish 365 ficlets (fanfic one-shots count here even if longer)

  3. Finish 52 original short stories

2019’s Accomplishments: Well, to start off with, I haven’t properly run all the numbers, but I’ll take a stab at the poetry despite not having finished typing things up.

  1. Finished more than 1000 poems (980ish typed and we won’t discuss the backlog of in notebook, not typed)

  2. Finished 213 fanfic or original ficlets

  3. Finished 9 original short stories

Boy, do I want to move that #3 needle, but that wasn’t a bad 3rd run at writing prose daily. Not what I wanted, but not bad.

So next year: I want to do all the things, to be honest. I want to finish writing books, compiling anthologies, finish those gift stories I never did because the guilt hangs over my head all the time, and I want to finish short stories too. I want to crosspost things to patreon and publish every week, so people have a reason to subscribe, and collect the month’s haul of writing into something publishable, and the truth is I haven’t compiled reasonable goals yet. I could keep up with the average 3 poems/day and that wouldn’t be hard, but I truly want to focus in on producing and making available fiction.

Ah, we’ll see what happens.

scribblemyname: (Default)

That’s something I learned from a writer who does a lot of challenges: failing to success. So I failed to write anything longer than 1400 words, aka those short stories I want to get done. I also failed to finish the particular treats and late treats I wanted to.

That said, I wrote 100 poems and 33 ficlets in January. Not all of which are posted on AO3 yet or in the case of the poems, to tumblr. Still, that makes me super happy. Next month, short stories!

Hope you’re all doing well on your own goals.

scribblemyname: (Default)

So the goal by the end of the month is to have:

  1. 27 ficlets

  2. 4 short stories

  3. 93 poems

At the moment, I’ve logged:

  1. 24 ficlets

  2. 91 poems

  3. 0 short stories

Despite my best efforts. Technically, there are 11 poems waiting to be typed up, so I’m on track for poetry and three days to add three ficlets, so doing fine there too. It’s the short stories that is a slight problem. And of course, there’s Chocolate Box, which could either help or hinder. We’ll have to see which.

scribblemyname: (Default)

And I spent most of my time this weekend reading and commenting and giving kudos for the Exchanges After Dark discord server’s birthday bash, which was a badfic and badart exchange. I have not yet doled out comment replies.

General update on the year’s writing goals (which I still haven’t gone back and finished adding stats for last year :grimace: ). Thirteen days in and we’re at:

  • 14 ficlets: 2 original, 12 fanfic

  • 54 original passing poems and 2 fannish bad poems that I am not counting

  • 0 short stories

And technically a little novel work too, which is good. So in short, not a bad start but not quite where I want to be. Still, I’m grateful.

I need to put a day of treating in on Fandom Stocking, I have a shortlist of candidates but yesterday, my brain wanted to write crack and uh, yeah, not what was requested. Also, can’t wait to shift to treating Chocolate Box.

I’m still reading Sun Knight. Hulu has been in and out and my favorite overstimulated-right-now crash method of watching singing competition shows has been largely cut off. I’m not happy. Also, since when did one trip to the nearby grocery store wipe me out this bad? Gotta do something to get my nerves back under control. I lost two hours to aftermath coping.

Hope you’re all doing well!

scribblemyname: (Default)

  1. Wrote 52 poems, most (not all) are posted on my tumblr poetry tag

  2. Posted 7 revealed works on AO3, another 7 on my sock

I wanted to get more stuff done than that, but tbh, that’s not a bad haul, despite how many are drabbles.

scribblemyname: (Default)

Today is Day 140 in the year and I have written:

Poem a day is going splendidly. I’m pleased at the absolute number of drabbles, but I also definitely want to pick it up.

In non-drabble fiction, I’ve posted 10 non-drabble fanfics this year that didn’t end up under a sock. So not bad, even if not where I want to end up. Started original fic novel but it’s not done yet, so does it count? In the interest of full stats, I’m 16,000 words into that.

So I’m telling my brain, this ain’t been  a bad year so far.

scribblemyname: (if this is rescue)

  1. I have officially tried big bangs. They don't work very well for me, at least not on the front of stress, fic that's high enough quality for what I like to produce, or anything close to satisfying original fiction. The more research required, the worse off I am. I have one successful fic from a big bang, and that's Transition, the tropeyiest MI4 fic to probably ever trope (friends in denial to lovers, baby acquisition, kidfic, with animal transformations). The original fic suffered badly from lack of time to push through the plotty actiony bits (you know, the stuff I suck at writing), and the other fic didn't even happen. :laughs sorrowfully:

  2. That said, due to big bangs being very much not. my. thing., I am not going to attempt NanoWrimo this year, and that's that.

  3. That said, I've been doing poorly at getting back on the original fiction pony, and [livejournal.com profile] trovia's and thecatisacritic's gift fics have suffered as a result. My confidence went by way of sandusky with aforementioned failed original fic big bang fic and so I've been trying pretty desperately to get it back. A few snippets and a start on a fic off to the incomparably wonderful [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue have helped, but I wouldn't call myself out of the woods yet. So sorry, you two. I am the worst of friends when it comes to giving fic. Honestly, I'm soooo blessed you all love me anyway.

  4. Speaking of which, I swear all that fic I've promised you, [livejournal.com profile] geckoholic, is eventually coming. I even have snippets!

  5. And all that said, I'm thinking if I'm smart, I'll hit my bingos and my orginal fiction in the open period between wrapping the exchanges I have and Yuletide.

  6. But there's that fic for [livejournal.com profile] findthesea I've been headbanging on... And treats! And all that Rogue/Remy fic I still haven't gotten back to this year. And all that original fic.

So that's the random update on the crazy overextended plate that is my perennial lot. Love you all and hope you are wiser than I. :hugs:
scribblemyname: (calligraphy)
Finished heroinebigbang in the nick of time. Literally. I had maybe an hour left. Honestly, I think it begins better than it ends and will run it through my beta before calling it publishable, but it's posted and I'm glad I wrote it, for all its imperfections.

Got sick this weekend and tried to do my reading for in_the_blue and Rabia Gale. No dice. Writing was worse. I'm curled up sniffly and miserable with tissues and water.

Everything I owe everyone will just have to wait.

:waves:
scribblemyname: (soon is relative)
Sidenote: I need an icon for Kingdoms and Thorn.

Main note:

I've finished a decent draft of chapter two out of three, and now just have roughly 5K more to do on the last chapter to make everything to come together in a satisfying way before end of Friday so I can post before end of Sunday and there's actually no time for a real beta.

:tries not to hyperventilate:

As you were, and may your writing be less down-to-the-minute than mine.
scribblemyname: (T-Minus 2 Days: sibling!Xavier)
So I've got an exchange fic for [livejournal.com profile] jukebox_fest and my [livejournal.com profile] heroinebigbang fic is being exponentially problematic at 13,116 words and counting. This weekend, I'll read for [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue, then finally get back to Rabia Gale's latest book and review that, then I'll have a life again. :le sigh: Sorry, y'all. Still waaaay behind.

So...

Mentally incapable of writing today. Ah well.
scribblemyname: (buried: under the rubble)

  1. I'm in love, love, love with Trello and have started moving my docket there. We started using it at work, and I made all the grabby hands. :big grin: Can't invite anyone though because all the exchange fics proliferating and I adore getting friends for assignments. :frowns:

  2. I got my final rough draft turned in for "Transition" the MI4 [livejournal.com profile] couplesbigbang fic.

  3. I'm digging into producing a final draft for "Tracing Trouble" for the [livejournal.com profile] heroinebigbang. Thankfully, I got permission to turn it on Sunday, the 31st, after I'm back from camp. So I can haul along my tablet and keyboard and work at camp if I must. (I'm hoping this won't be necessary.

  4. Same date for "128 Stage", the Unusuals [livejournal.com profile] couplesbigbang fic. Which currently lays claim to 214 words. :headdesk: At least, Tracing Trouble has roughly 7K.

  5. I got my Every Woman assignment and am quite pleased.

Love you all! :waves:

  1. I have an idea where I'm going with exchange fic due.

  2. I met my 2K words for [livejournal.com profile] couplesbigbang that I need to produce every weekday to make my deadlines.

  3. I have an over 6K piece of organized chaos for the [livejournal.com profile] heroinebigbang.

  4. I put in an hour on testing at home for work.

  5. I did not get anything more read last night but still am not behind so not worried.

Not a bad yesterday.
scribblemyname: (calligraphy)
I lost 2/3 month to downtime and am playing catch-up because of it. Those 2/3rds were originally allotted to finishing up One Good Storm and A Game for the Gods. Now, I have to write 3 bang fics this month if I don't plan to default (I don't):

Title: 128 Stage
Fandom: The Unusuals
Pairing: Beaumont/Walsh, Casey/Davis
Summary: Prostitute/Coffee Shop AU where Walsh offers Casey a cup of coffee and accidentally acquires a barista.

Title: [not sure yet]
Fandom: Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Pairing: Jane/Will
Summary: They didn't mean to accidentally acquire a kid, and they certainly didn't mean to end up raising said kid together because they're just friends and everyone's getting the wrong idea.

Title: Tracing Trouble
Fandom: Original (Kingdoms and Thorn)
Pairing: Cate/Marc, Killinger/Hasheni
Summary: Catherine April isn't a military operative anymore. She's a member of the Special Unit, a law enforcement team dedicated to all cases in the city involving those with special abilities. But when a fledgling tracer tests his power over computer systems in the city, it hurts someone she loves and hits too close to home. She may not be an operative anymore, but she's still in the business, and she still knows how to own the game.

I don't know if I like these summaries, but it was required that I write them and the fics aren't done, so I couldn't cheat and pull an excerpt. (I'm good at that. :shakes head at self: )

And then I've got three books to read, which is not a hardship. As far as that goes, I can skip Jane the Virgin, Agents of SHIELD, and Nashville this next week and bank book time.

So that's what's up. I've got to do what I did to clear three weeks for those two original stories last time, get through the next round of deadlines in a hurry, and not let myself get thoroughly distracted by small prompts. Hope y'all's writing is just as fun! (and less hectic)
scribblemyname: (616 black widow)
So because there's a difference between hits and kudos and I'm that sort of curious (hits especially can be rereads and are always more likely to be older fics than newer), my top 10 kudoed fics on AO3.

1. Tingo (Pascuense), (MCU: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff) 167 kudos

Once again, as expected, but this time it's number one. It's funny and lighthearted and I had a ball writing it, so I'm glad it's so high up, even if I am occasionally surprised at how much attention it got.

2. Hypothetically, (MCU: Maria Hill/Bucky Barnes) 108 kudos

Written for [livejournal.com profile] tielan because she prompted the pairing and I said, why did I never think of this? Yes, please! and wrote it. It has followed a continuing trend that if [livejournal.com profile] beatrice_otter reads and likes and recs something of mine, suddenly the hits and kudos shoot up.

3. Call Me Phil, (MCU: cat!Phil Coulson) 101 kudos

Started life as a [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic thing, then got such responses in the comments, I decided to keep going. (Funny, that's how I got dragged into 200 chapters of Whispers too). I haven't updated in a bit, but I do think I want to write some more installments). Basically, Phil is reincarnated as a cat instead of Agents of SHIELD happening. Maria adopts him.

4. One More Day, (MCU: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff) 94 kudos

One of my best fics ever, I think. This one struck a chord for me and for readers, judging by the comments. Written for the [livejournal.com profile] be_compromised promptathon (and an aside, but exchanges and comms really increase visibility/readership for me), the prompt basically went every day, Natasha decides again not to kill Clint. Well, being me, that immediately spoke to brainwashing and triggers and what would make her want or need to kill him in the first place.

5. 'Til Death Do Us Part, (MCU: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff) 86 kudos

Natasha falls first, they share a soulbond, Natasha has history with Bucky, the Winter Soldier, and I blame it all on Trope Bingo. I was blown away initially by the response it got, then rolled with it and wrote two more installments: a prequel and a Clint-POV remix.

6. Taken, (MCU: Maria Hill + Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff) 82 kudos

Again with the necklace and Natasha and Maria being friends because they seriously are.

7. Learning Natasha (Again), (MCU: Natasha Romanoff) 80 kudos

The remix! This one is my most popular Natasha piece between all sites and the quality of the commentary, bookmarks, etc. It was a remix of an awesome fic by OracleGlass, and I tried to keep the Clint/Natasha readable as either platonic or romantic because that's how the original went really. I was seriously blown away by the reaction to this fic, though it still gratifies me and gives me warm fuzzies, because it's just really identity exploration and relationship building and bonding and working at socialness, which is something I can relate to but don't usually see as very popular compared to romance, missionfic, or smut.

8. Shall We Dance?, (MCU: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff) 79 kudos

I just kind of decided that Natasha deliberately got on SHIELD's radar to get to Clint because my Trope Bingo card said reunion and I thought them, and I just kept writing. I was actually really happy about how this one turned out, if it does have that slightly off vibe my first works had before I fully got a handle on the pairing for myself.

9. Made and Meant, (MCU: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff) 77 kudos

I'm not even going to ask how a fic I wrote this year got this highly kudoed that fast. I like this little Darcy tells the spysassins they belong together ficlet, but I never counted it among my best.

Stopping there because the next two tie and were on my top hits list. So there you have it. What AO3 readers say they love best of my fics.
