Insurgent by Veronica Roth

So…

I’ve read where Veronica Roth says that by the end of Insurgent, Tris will not be the same girl she was at the end of Divergent. I think this is necessary, and Roth has never shirked from necessary choices. Tris can’t be the same. At the end of Divergent, she had discovered her own strength and yet, she had also found her own invincibility. Her choices have been clear. Yes, she killed Will. Yes, she did not forgive Al. Yes, she let her mother die. Why? Because she could see that these choices were necessary, whether or not she could articulate the reasons.

But this is war. In Insurgent, we are promised that faction lines will cease to be the defining factor of good and evil, that those who seem good or evil will turn out to be otherwise, that reality will screw them all over as reality is wont to do, and this is something Roth has never flinched away from. I expect the Tris at the end of Insurgent to be different: she won’t be a girl, but a woman. She won’t be an optimist, but a realist. She won’t be invincible, but she sure as anything won’t be vulnerable.

Actually, I’m quite looking forward to it.

See, this is why I love Veronica Roth and this series in general. She demonstrated a deft hand with character development in "Divergent", and it's looking like that pattern is going to continue in "Insurgent". I love watching characters grow and change, and the fact that Roth doesn't shy away from character development -- and is so very, very good at it -- makes me a happy woman.

(Also, received the boxes of "Insurgent" at work. My impatience is growing. According to DivergentNation, one day, fifteen hours. I am so itchy for this right now it is INSANE. I work Tuesday afternoon/evening, but I am scooping it up right before I leave, and I'm fairly sure I'm going to end up not sleeping.)

I saw that you're probably not going to pick up a copy this week because of that 80 dollar bill thing. Sorry if this comes across as rubbing it in. I really am. It's just that you're the only one I know who can appreciate this. :)

I figure it's referring to fifteen hours left in today, and then all of Monday. I think on Pacific Standard Time (my time zone), but then again it could base the time on where my ISP indicates I am.

Speaking from an industry standpoint, pre-orders can't even get theirs early if the book's classified as a Strict On-Sale. SOS books are under an embargo, and if released early, the store that sells them gets in deep trouble. Like, huge fines trouble. Some stores do it anyways for some reason, but as to why they'd want to risk it? Search me.
