Fluff, Relationships, and Traditions

So characters have habits, ways they interact with certain people and situations, things they do and like to do, stories and histories together. I've known a lot of my characters' for a long time but getting them all into fic is interesting, particularly for the ones I don't know that for.

I've got about five novelettes I want to turn out plus a short story, created out of the 5 Things Meme and then the whole Pieter/Ashen dynamic that originally played in my head before I even wrote that first Ashen drabble (and it is awesome to me, but got sidelined drastically with a deluge of other prompts), but, but, but...

I'm on day 265 of my challenge and story count 157 and I'm still plying angles and there's all those little things above that I'm itching to nibble at. Want to help a girl out?

Particularly of interest to me are things like where does Wesley work (not sure actually), and then relationship things that I haven't gotten to like how Justus always recognizes Shift regardless of her current form or demeanor, friendships, sibling relationships, Ilsa and her husband, etc.

I take it you shared my opinion of their relationship from "Memory"? I like her as a character/person, but I admit to not thinking she and Connor are going to work out. But that's probably both of their's fault.

They seem to have moments, but they don't really... fit.

She's not... horrible, but I don't like her much.

I think Connor not introducing her to Wesley shows the problem with their relationship, as does "Memory." He tries to be light/easygoing with her, but he's not quite... himself. He holds back and isn't honest about things that matter like his brother.

Without that kind of honesty... It really wouldn't work, at least not in my opinion.

That's my opinion too. I like her because in that story, she was really trying (to the best of what she did know of him) and he wasn't because he didn't feel it would help any, and it's that major disconnect that I think is the real problem and why I said their relationship isn't healthy. She's in this for the long haul. He's not. And the "fell together," the way that came out as I was writing, I realized that he has always just been taking it as it comes with her, seeing if anything would progress. That difference right there would kill any relationship if they didn't get on the same page.

Thus, both of their fault. :le sigh:

Yeah, she does seem to try, but he didn't meet her with that try.

Connor did kind of learn to take things as they come because he grew up with a brother that would forget, but he can't really go into a relationship like that.

A part of me almost thinks he'd have to start with someone who already knew his brother and that situation before he'd be able to have a real relationship, but I think I might also have been thinking that there was potential with Angelita and him when they were both teasing Lena/Wesley.

So... bias, but he would have to find someone he was willing to tell about Wesley before he could make something work, and he's really not been making what he has with Ashelynn work.

Come to think of it, I think they make good friends and probably shouldn't have gone further than that.
