On the Writing Front, November 1–2

So I got an 84 word start on the November novel, due to a gift scene popping into my head as I got under the covers. Problem: I was in bed. Solution: I memorized the dialogue and wrote it this morning.

Then I dove into the collaboration fic and got 1075 new words by cycling back through the section that needed it and adding two new scenes on the end because lo and behold, they were in my head last night as well.

It's back to the November novel. (I like that better than Nano. :shrugs: ) I've got snippets and snatches I've been collecting. I guess I better go dig them up and add them.

Stopped to add another 299 to the collaboration. Done with that for the day. Back to Novembering it.

Got all my old stuff in there that I think belongs in this story: 3143 words. Now, let's go from there. Ended at 3263.

Saturday night, I managed a snippet. Heading into a work-intensive Sunday, can't promise instant scribbles, but the ideas are there. Too bad the collab can't be my nano. I don't think... Must check the rules.

The FAQ says that two people would have to have separate accounts and update their counts separately and validate the story separately.

I think it would be even more okay as I have a completely separate Nano project that I'm writing and counting.

The file I have with the collaboration puts us at 17,180 words total, including the scene you wrote for the political background and the promise flashback that don't have places yet/or necessarily belong.

Looks like we have made quite a bit of progress, doesn't it?

Indeed. I'm tracking all my November words, so I think I'm going to switch my nano novel, which will make me illions happier.

Do we have a working title for this? It deals a lot in the themes of promises and family.

I almost called it "Promises, Promises" because a few scenes into it I got that song by the Naked Eyes stuck in my head, but I currently have it saved as "collab" since I wasn't sure what it should be called.

I threw the concepts of family and ties and promises around for a bit and got some thoughts, but they all seemed to ignore the scifi element and made it have too much emphasis on the family drama, which is there but would be a bit misleading...

There was another song about a promise that came to me while I was writing, seemed to fit Alik in some ways, but it didn't have any lyrics that inspired more (Promise to Me by Mirah) though maybe Tracy Chapman's "The Promise" is better for an overall sentiment (minus a few romantic elements.)

Maybe there's a line coming that would give the title. Somehow I can see it coming in a conversation between Alik and Vred if they ever did meet, but I don't know. that's a bit much to expect, them having that perfect line...

I'm going to stick with collab/oration too for the time being. I'm not sure, and nothing's jumping out at me.

The name will come when it's ready. I'm sure we'll think of something. It's just early in the story yet.

My nano doesn't have a name, either. I just saved it as catalyst because one character said the other was one, but the story has already well moved away from that and it's not scifi. Lol. Funny how things go.
