I marathoned Nashville over the course of a few Saturday nights and I can't even make Black Roses a romance/break-up song in my head, though that's how the songwriter conceived of it. Honestly, I love the story they used it for and it also always makes me think of Hawkeye and Trickshot, the Barton brothers.
I definitely didn't see Black Roses as a breakup song, as evidenced by the piece I wrote. I took it with the words and knives and also had it as a bit between siblings.
Yeah, I was thinking about it a lot, and ironically, the stuff that followed would have been almost positive because, despite the fact that Zi would have fought Wyk and refused to let him kill Xynn, it would have forced Wyk to explain a lot of stuff he was holding back and the conflict he's been in over what he wanted to do and why he wanted to do it in the first place. Which is an ugly backstory, but... yeah, better to get it out.
That conversation was all I could think of after the words like knives part, with their battle over whether or not Wyk will turn against his training, and his battle with himself.
