Bookish Things

So during the holiday season, I picked up a few books. I made myself wait until I'd written 2K words of fics I owe before I posted this, and that much is done, so here goes.
Yuleswap:
I requested poetry and my very dear, much appreciated swapper sent me three books of poetry. Yay.
I adore Longfellow, I like Dickinson's cutting style, and I love Spanish, so it's nice to have something bilingual like this to settle into and drown in a few verses. Total win.
Personal Purchases:
Read anything good this past month or two?

- Favorite Poems - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
- Selected Poems - Emily Dickinson
- Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair - Pablo Neruda

Personal Purchases:
- American Sniper - totally research; I keep writing about this character who's a sniper and it caught my eye four or five times
- Bourne Ascendancy - I like the Bourne fandom, so when I saw the mass market at a nice, low price, I snagged it
- Dealing with Dragons - P.C. Wrede - to get to free shipping on a Christmas present, and because I originally bought this book for less than two dollars at a thrift store and mourned it when it got lost in a move, so lovely to have it back
- Whimsy, Ink, and Love - a collection of my own poetry for a Christmas gift for family, not to be published
- Ella Enchanted - Gail Carson Levine - for this fic I'm writing (and shall now get back to)
Read anything good this past month or two?

Oh! If you are in the mood for awesome sci-fi, I just read "Avalon" by Mindee Arnett (sp?). Total blast - think Firefly-ish ensemble of teenage thieves that end up caught between their crime boss, a secret government agency, and strange space occurences. Really fantastic - like I started it at lunch and mourned because I had to set it down to go back to work.

Date: 2015-01-14 09:19 pm (UTC)I like Firefly but admit to having almost zero interest in Guardians of the Galaxy. Not sure what it is exactly but none of the clips, videos, or even the awesome fanfic that I actually love has made me want to see it. Could be the humor seems a little cruder and that's a major turn-off for me.
