About that pernicious tendency o' mine to scribble...

Back to my (potentially annoying) habit of informing you all of the random updates in my life.

1. The house thing is finally done.


2. My computer files are finally getting back into order.


3. I am ready to canon review for my two original fiction projects and dive in.


4. I've already finished more than 15K words this month, and that makes me very happy. Now, if I can only shape up some original stuff into acceptable collection/larger projects.


5. I have three open assignments and a pinch hit to write, but I'm way ahead of deadline on that. I also 6 fics written and posted to their appropriate collections that are not yet revealed.


6. If there is anything that can teach someone to write to a deadline and finish things if that someone does not have the inherent knack for it, it's gift exchanges. I highly recommend them.


7. Total word count for the year of completed fic is 9 words shy of 40K.

Thank you! It helped to stop tracking WIPs. Now, I only track finished fics and their word counts. Oddly, that probably means I'm underreporting, but it sure does help me finish more work.

Thank you! I'm behind on my 500K goal, but I'm actually okay with that. I'm still learning this rhythm of mine for longer fic and in the long run, I expect that to be more productive.

Man that is a damned fantastic goal. A lot more than I'm aiming for. I managed 75ish k last year which was the most I've ever done in one year before, so that was fun. I'm trying for 150k this year. We'll see if I manage it! It'll be awesome to beat it, but I'm not sure if I'll manage it lol

I have an advantage in the word count department that's actually a handicap in the publishable works department: I write a ton of microfic and poetry (though I'm not counting the poetry this year because reasons). I blow through ficlets like no tomorrow and can probably put away a spare 1K a day when I do without even thinking about it, but those have to be edited, sometimes expanded, and collected to be really usable in the original fiction world and most people in fanfic seem to prefer the longer works that take me ages. So there's that. If you're putting together more fics that top 1K, more power to you. And over 5K? I admire people who can write those often, though I'm working very hard this year to become one.

Yeah I do understand that feeling. Fanfic definitely ends up shorter for me, though I didn't use to be able to write original short stories easily. I'm getting better about it though - most of the mags/anthologies I've found lately want anywhere between 2k and 10k and hitting about 3-4 seems to be my sweet spot there.

I think I just finally got the hang of them. And I do so much better gifting fic, and my usual prompt provider is out of pocket, plus I want to write longer fic anyway...
