Date: 2015-07-21 07:54 pm (UTC)The show hinted at Rommie/Dylan a lot, but I never liked that idea much.
There were times I thought I could maybe see other pairs, but I never got into them enough to see soul mates or OTP.
I like the idea of Trance/Harper, but the cross species soul mates makes things complicated.

Date: 2015-07-21 08:23 pm (UTC)I dislike Beka/Tyr and okay, Tyr almost any of them. I kind of liked him with Freya or Medea, though now that I'm older, I get why Medea said she wasn't going to stick around and wait for him; she'd been used by men enough.
I liked Beka/Schrodinger's Cat and Beka/Gaheris Rhade, but there ends the actual relationships I ship her in. It's weird because Beka/Dylan is a ship I actually see canonically pushed/supported in the background, but while I like her teasing him with it, I actually don't think they'd pair up well. I don't see it. They're the perfect partnership rather.
So when it comes to soulmates, you have to think about Andromeda cosmology and how souls work and who would be bound and why. It might be good for some metafic before potentially applying it to anyone.
A star and a human isn't likely to be soulmates, but maybe he never had one at all?

Date: 2015-07-21 08:33 pm (UTC)I couldn't see Beka/Tyr lasting. They bantered well and I liked their teasing, but it's hard to ship him with anyone knowing what he does. I think I liked him best with Freya. I didn't like Medea much at all.
I saw hints of Dylan/Beka being given, but I couldn't see that happening. Any time I thought I might start shipping it, I balked and went away from it. And now I am really aware of how much Dylan gets involved with women over the course of the show (well, at least so far) and can't ship him with anyone because he is just so...
Maybe the only soul bonds that exist are platonic?
I think Harper sees himself as having no soul mate, poor guy.

Date: 2015-07-21 08:49 pm (UTC)Honestly, I think it's rebound. First he went through the stage of Sara was too close; now he's trying to fill the emptiness; eventually, one would hope he'd go to normal.
I've been thinking about platonic soulmates.
Honestly, I disliked Medea but I could see her with Tyr. They were both Kodiak and survivors and the implication was strong, she'd survived by prostitution, which changes a little of how I look at her and her getting away from all that, but it wasn't as herself I liked her at all, only as an extension of Tyr. Which sounds awful, but some people fit whether or not you like a particular half. I definitely preferred Freya as a character.

Date: 2015-07-21 09:12 pm (UTC)Platonic might work. So far it's the most plausible to me, though I just started a debate with myself over why one kind of soul bond could work and not the other.
I think she and Tyr make sense. They do fit each other, and since they are apparently the last of the Kodiaks, they make sense together. I feel sorry for her a little for what she had to do to survive, but I still dislike her. Freya was easier to like, though she seemed weaker in her second episode than her first. Still, she defied a lot to keep Tyr's baby, and that makes me respect her.
