And I pretty much hate trying to use DW in its free state because lots of reasons (and what's with LJ cutting off some of my icons when I've kept them paid for either?), and while I like Imzy, no one's moved over there and while I used to like Tumblr, they've made it less usable and also, it's hard to just use anymore because they made the regular site run so slow and painful and I'm not usually working on an app.

So...

I have no idea where I'm going to set up shop or if I'm just going to fix up my WP again (or start a new one) and do that.

I'm feeling pretty ambivalent too. Been forcing myself to post on DW although it never feels right and at least a couple of my LJ friends haven't moved there yet. And whether it's crazy or not, I still want to post on LJ too. I guess there are no easy answers.

I had an initial resistance to using DW, but over time it's grown on me. It took a while - maybe six months - to accustom myself to it, but for the last three or four years, I've seen it as a lot more convenient and considerably less fraught than LJ. Of course, the kind of community I recalled from LJ wasn't there, but it was somewhere to put my thoughts and hold conversations, and discuss things with the people willing to comment.

I just couldn't get into Imzy.

The only reason I don't just set up shop on Imzy is that everyone I care about on LJ doesn't like it. I love Imzy and I'm very familiar with DW but I hate it pretty passionately. The things I like about it are an extremely tiny list that consists of imports LJ well + features literally any basic blog platform has. Anything unique to DW pretty much sucks big time.

So I'm stuck not knowing what to do exactly because there's no way DW's likely to happen for me and since Imzy won't happen for those I like, I'm down mostly to Tumblr or my own site. My own site requires some cleanup but is doable. It just never feels as informal and easy as LJ felt, and Tumblr is too busy and colorful to do at work, even on breaks, plus it's a downright pain when not on a desktop computer, which means, I'm still mulling, but I don't like any of my options. I mean, I could always stay on LJ, but that has other issues.

I guess I only want two things:

1. a blogging platform where I can dump my thoughts, fic, ideas, rants in longform and have people comment on the posts in threaded discussions which I can keep track of and control - at least on my own journal,

2. a community/network that springs out of those interactions.

DW doesn't do as good a job as LJ did for me on #2, but at least the community feels less forced than Imzy.

And I never had any community on DW, but I did find my people fast on Imzy but that's mostly because there were active writing prompt comms, and a worldbuilding and conlang comm. Combine the people who visit all three and you have basically my people when it comes to the nonfannish sort.

Fannish, I agree. Forced. But I'm doing less fannish stuff overall, so :wavers: Half dozen on one side, six on the other. I do like Tumblr for discovery. It's so easy to post conlang or poetry and have people you don't know actually read it because the tag system, but it's still a downright pain. :still wavers:

That's a given. I keep a presence there. Of course, making sure I don't forget anyone is impossible without paying them money because of the ridiculously tiny number of notifications (15 total, including getting notifs of comments on your own posts), but I'll certainly try. And I tracked you before I found out about the cap, so I always get notifs on your DW posts. :D

Done! I did have you subscribed looks like. And I finally figured out that you can see subscriptions on the reading page, so there's at least a small hope I can keep up with DW people without notifications. Hopefully. I promise nothing.

I imported my LJ to Dreamwidth, but am not sure I'll get into that. Bottomline: I like LJ, and will maintain a presence there. The Russians probably already read my e-mail anyway, so.

I'm guessing I'm going to figure out my WP again and get crossposting to work with both journal sites. Maybe. Probably.
