Query: how do you use DW? As in, how do you interact with it - do you check your emails for notifications about who's posted and what, do you stay logged in and check your read pages (I'm guessing not from your post title)?
Fr instance, I check my Read page regularly - it's one of the first sites I check in the morning after my emails. I only have email notifications for people making comments on my posts or replying to my comments on other people's posts, and for some sites where I only want a specific type of post (eg. something tagged 'admin' or 'signups').
For me, DW is very useable with the exception of DMs/PMs which are clunky as (no way to reply except to login) - it's just a webpage that I check, like my emails, social media sites, or the news. Clearly that's not the case for you (and perhaps others who haven't made the switch to DW citing useability instances).
Email, email, email. On LJ, I tracked everything and it all went to email and I usually replied from the email. DW doesn't let you do that and it doesn't work well for me. Tumblr, I only read my dash when I'm on a posting spree, though I like my dash because that's how my life rolls. I don't posting spree DW so it's not the same. There a handful of people on tumblr (now that I follow to many to stay up to date on all) that I check out their blog directly to see if I missed anything, but only infrequently. I follow a lot of sites, a lot of blogs, and all the fic authors I like via email. I keep up on my email, starring stuff I have to get to later. I don't actually always keep up on anything else at all.
Ah, that explains much, then. For me, my usage of the internet (including DW) is largely web-based, with only the emails for occasional notifications. And no, it's not set up so conveniently from an email perspective, but I started out from LJ and when I reply-posted in the window box, it opened the LJ comment thread in any case, so just going straight to the page is a little annoying but not a deal-breaker...
Blessings that you don't catch it! I'm typing this from bed because when I went to bed at 2 in the morning, I had hit 32 hours for the week already, but hey, work project was ready!
