Clarity has always been my waterloo. I got three reviews in the last four days that say, "I have no idea what you're talking about, but I'm hooked." (Mixed blessing.) The most common line my editor dumps on my submissions, "Clarify." My favorite thing to do in writing? Write between the lines.

I don't think I excel at this. I would love to. I would love to help readers get my ideas as much as I'm told I get my characters.

Especially because I feel like my writing is pretty straight-forward: I write what the characters are saying (and thinking, if necessary) and what the characters are doing. Which never really struck me as having a very distinct style, so I'm at least glad to know CS Lewis thought that counted! (Where did you find the Lewis quotes on writing, btw?)

I always figured with voice that it came from just writing. Don't think about it, don't fight for it, just write what matters to you and keep getting better and practicing, and if you're not trying, your own voice will seep through.
Your voice is awesome and is half of what draws me into your Raven stories. (I was looking for a way back under Mystique's skin, and this movie's been a godsend.)

I can give you more info about the plot bunny I have, but basically my idea is to bring Erik back to teach at the school (and I guess Raven would come with him, since they're together, though I haven't thought fully of what capacity she would return in other than his girlfriend, and I'd like there to be something for her to do)--in Liberation universe. So the Holocaust themes come up for him again, but he's absolutely great with the kids and thinks all their abilities are wonderful, etc, except that as he makes so much progress with them his issues become a bit much and he tends toward crazy again, and the arrangement doesn't ultimately work out. I can go into more detail with you in private, but does that basic premise interest you at all? (I could also totally use input from someone who knows more about the fandom than I do if I'm dealing with the school setting...)
