Comment to this post, and I will list five things I associate with you, They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back to me). Other people (including me) can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
Vardin
This, of course, has nothing to do with the fact that
in_the_blue is my beta for all stories written in the Vardin world, of which hopefully there will be many. Vardin is sort of the culmination of years of mentally rewriting the evolutionary theory behind superhero mutations into something with concrete scientific rules that make sense and categorize it all neatly. Somewhere in there, a medical terminology course didn't help either. It's fun and logical and illogical all at once, but since I absolutely adore biochemistry and genetics, it was inevitable that I'd eventually turn these stories into original fiction with all the original characters and multifandom bases I'd been playing around with since forever.
busy as a bee
Um... Yeah. Busy I am. I don't seem to know how to stop, even when it's not just good for me, but necessary. I'm always headed in a thousand directions. Real healthy, yeah? :rolls eyes at self:
Rogue/Gambit
Favorite X-Girl was always Rogue, so when I decided to dip my toes back into fandom a few years back, I looked her up, read a bunch of stuff, got inspired, wrote a bit, then discovered Gambit. I was like, "My favorite character has a love interest?!" Then, of course, I fell in love with Gambit. Sometimes I wonder if I actually love him more now.
Christianity
Wasn't expecting this one, though I cannot tell you how awesome it felt that it made it on the list. I often feel I'm too shy about being Christian. It's easy to let the world make me feel ashamed of being Christian or at least of talking about it, like it's okay to bash Christians, just not anybody else, and please, keep your ideas to yourself. And then throw in fanfic, which is about characters that only rarely share even a fraction of my beliefs, and I occasionally wonder how good of a Christian I really am. But there you have it. It made the list. And I love God and it's a part of who I am.
writing
This really wasn't a surprise. Writing is the one thing I swear is written on my blood and bones. There is nothing I would rather be than a writer. Nothing.
Naturally, comment and I'll list you in 5.

How about a five for me, and I'll respond in kind to you?
Besties in five flavors...
Date: 2011-12-09 03:59 pm (UTC)Yes, the five (and of course, I want to hear yours back!):
angst, gamble, bring it on, the man upstairs, cup of joe

Re: YOUR Five:
(I'm trying not to use any of the words already associated with you here, but I make no promises. Hee!)
1) Insight. You have this incredible gift for self-analysis in terms of both your personal life and your creative life. You think things through, deeply, and I admire that.
2) Skill. You manage to draw out ideas and angles that I would never have considered otherwise. I'm not talking just fandom here. I'm talking in general. You've got a knack for turning things on their head and making it all WORK. On top of that, you make it look EASY, even if you don't think so.
3) Joy. Despite your struggles with yourself, your writing, and your life in general, it's always a pleasure to talk with such a lovely, positive person who can celebrate even little things with me.
4) Faith. I know I said I'd try not to repeat words already used, but this one is important. I adore the small conversations we've had about faith, and the fact that we can make prayer petitions to one another so comfortably.
5) Friendship. Cheesy, but true. You're considerate and absolutely genuine. You have a deep care for others that I love to see standing here on the 'sidelines', and appreciate when I'm personally involved.
*hugs* Stay amazing, you.
Re: Besties in five flavors...
Date: 2011-12-11 03:56 pm (UTC)angst
There are only four or five writers who can make me adore their angst fics every. single. time. You're on the list. You write it a lot, but you usually get a happy ending out someway too. When I think of your fanfic, despite your wide range, I always think of the Rogue/Gambit or just plain Gambit angst.
gamble
You're a risk-taker and I admire that. The word itself comes from my over-saturation with Gambity goodness, I'll admit, but it's a theme that's in your writing and your personal posts: you're willing to go out on a limb and just try something, and that's awesome.
bring it on
When life knocks you over—epilepsy, crazy not-calling schools, ornery family, etc.—you don't pull a scribbler and find a nice corner to go and hide in until you stop wanting to cry. I've seen you virtually grit your teeth, yell in the face of life (or facepalm), and keep on trucking with a sass and a grit that's just awe-inspiring. When I think of all the things that have gone after you and watched you just gone after life, I think this is a girl that knows how to say, "Bring it on."
the man upstairs
Weird to be saying this, but reading your ease with talking about your relationship with "the man upstairs," as you usually call him, was what made me feel like it was okay to journal about my walk with God and my struggles with myself just as much as it was okay to talk about fandom. I hadn't even noticed how close-mouthed I'd gotten about my faith until I read you talking about yours and missed that about myself.
cup of joe
I admit, the words lithium coffee might apply better. But really, girl. How could you escape being associated with coffee? :grins: I love you for it.
Re: Besties in five flavors...
Date: 2011-12-11 05:51 pm (UTC)You know, some days the stories just go out of my hands, and the angst shows up in spades. I don't know why, but I'm so glad it's enjoyed.
Re: gamble
You never step over the line, you never advance. I suppose that's been one of my mottoes. See? There you go with your bang-on analysis. I would never have picked this word out myself.
Re: bring it on
This? This one made me tear up. I can't even articulate how much this particular one means to me; I've always felt like I whine a lot about anything/everything, and yet here you go telling me that I'm demonstrating strength. Wow. I...I don't even know. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Re: the man upstairs
That's not weird at all to say. As Christians, He's a big part of who we are. I figure there's no point in trying to tamp that down. My flist has some wonderful Christians on it (like yourself!), and those who aren't are okay with it, and even willing to chat religion too!
I am so, so honoured that I helped you 'open your mouth'. If the Man put me here solely to give you that little bit of support or what-have-you, then that alone is fantastic. You're in my prayers regularly, my dear. *hugs*
Re: cup of joe
*sigh* I never am going to escape it. Having just finished a cup five minutes ago, I think I'm okay with that. :)
