"Can't a girl at least get a decent cup of joe?" Mandy demanded loudly, still waving her burnt fingers from where she toasted them on this poorly wrapped styrofoam cup. But no, Kris couldn't make a decent cup of coffee to save his life; it tasted even worse than it smelled.

Mandy scowled at the streetlamp on the corner. She was sitting on her favorite park bench in front of the only diner in town waiting for a clue. There had to be some reason every. single. one of her friends was either happily married or happily relocated and she was still stuck working ten to two at Kris' lousy diner.
