NaNo Day 8: Jaguar Lives
Nov. 8th, 2012 09:42 pmShe was a smaller child than Monkey when first her people left her alone beneath those leaves and ordered her to bring home meat. A tiny thing, she was fearful of the dark, for her eyes were black and human, prey not predator.
Yellow eyes startled her out of the night. The jaguar shifted forward from the undergrowth and picked his way on great paws to breathe against her shoulder in a voice she should not have been able to understand. “What is this soul and skin you wear?”
That was when she knew she was Jaguar, when she lifted her small hands to his great shoulders and embraced the beast, breathing back, when she learned how the jaguar hunt.

So today, I struck a deal with my muse that went like so…
Dear Muse,
Under the circumstances of dire duress, I permit you to write anything you want during this November period under two conditions, as follows:
- You must produce words and a significant chunk of them at any point when I am following your guidance, and
- You must also produce definitive and significant progress on whatever story you undertake to have me write—
definitive meaning reliable, fully-formed, and complete; and significant meaning important and of sufficient volume to be worth my while.
Any failure to comply with the above conditions will result in immediate and summary dismissal of your input regarding which project I am working on.
Thank you and regards.
Sincerely,
the scribbler

NaNo Day 4
Nov. 4th, 2012 05:09 pmNaNo Day 4: 3136 words | 2268 definitively new words
What I have written surprised me. I was not expecting Watcher to show up here in this world, let alone to suddenly buddy up with Gnell, express disdain for Darren Summers, and enter a very quiet power play to cut off Darren and her assistant Dabri from manipulating the Elysium secession.
I didn't even know I would be seriously engaging with the Elysium secession. And I haven't even gotten Seara completely to Elysia yet where she's going to have to stay incredibly on her toes to get the silver attached to Shelley and off to Kailin.
Can I say my head is starting to spin? I'm glad this is NaNo and I can just muck around 'til it all makes sense. Seriously.
ETA: I will seriously need a Judaism/Hebrew culture picker when this is all done.
ETA: Have just radically screwed with continuity and previous snippets. Incorporated some old material for reworking. We'll see how this all shakes out later.
Incremental NaNo-ness
Nov. 2nd, 2012 03:26 pmDeleted all words from day 1.
Snippet:
Seara pushes the tiny Elysium speeder to its fastest and hits the wall of Kippler's. It's an explosion of discomfort, shocks reeling and the entire craft jarred from the impact. The shimmering wall of color bends beneath her spaceship, and she leans hard right, angling through the tunnel like she's wrestling angels in her flight.
She knows this path. No nav to guide her, instruments next to useless, but she's one of the best pilots in the twenty-two star systems and she's flown everything under every sun there is to fly.
