Research and the Gambit Age Conundrum

Okay, so as most of y'all know (or ought to), I write a lot of Remyness. I happen to be in love with the character of Remy LeBeau. But I have unearthed some unusual things in my research for a couple fics I'm writing and it's driving me nuts.

First (and more minor): Apparently, Marvel never established his middle name as Etienne. That came from an enormously popular set of fics by Lori McDonald (sp?), her Gestalt Arc. Go figure. Makes me want to scream.

Second (and vital): Gambit's ages for his own and for Etienne's Tillings, in my mind, conflict.

According to Marvel canon, a Guild Thief has to shepherd each new Thief through his Tilling, or rite of passage. Etienne chose a fifteen year old Remy to shepherd him through his. However, Remy was seventeen years old, four months away from marrying Bella Donna, already having trouble with his powers, when he had his Tilling.

?!

How is a Thief who has not passed Tilling supposed to shepherd someone else through his? Very confusing.

Thoughts anyone?

I can tell you that while yes, The Gestalt Arc was the first place the whole 'Remy Etienne LeBeau' thing came from, Marvel actually established it as canon back in January of this year or so.

As to your second question, I had never noticed that. Could be you're looking at two separate canons, but beyond that, I have no idea. Something to look in to, for sure. Hmmmm.

Heh. Those scans made a lot of people's hearts happy. Years of fanon actually making its way in to comic canon? damn right the fans celebrated. I only wonder where Lori Mcdonald is, and what she thinks.
