scribblemyname: (consider me awed)
The awesomest article on reality in a superhero universe ever.

I know I've said it over and over, what's with all these mutants thinking the only paths available are terrorism or vigilantism? Makes me want to pull together Rehab, but I'm having trouble with the research and cast selection.

(Like I need something more to do. :shakes head at self: )

From [livejournal.com profile] xenokattz and [livejournal.com profile] mwffj. I did both before I'd post it myself, naughty me.

Give me a pairing and I will tell you:
1. What they most commonly do during sex.
2. Who has prettier hair.
3. What they argue about most often.
4. Who'd cope best if the other one died.
5. The happiest plausible happily-ever-after I can think of for them.

Writer Seeking Beta
I'm looking for a shredder: someone that will shred my work apart on a functional, grammatical/spelling, structural, character, world-building, and canon-building level. I have clarity issues. Big ones. Knowledge of X-Men fandoms and possibly Roswell preferred. Also, occasional brainstorming when I can't make my threads work.

I blame [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter and [livejournal.com profile] xenokattz. They've converted me and I'm considering a crossover. :headdesk:

Also, I've simply decided I don't want to do nonbeta work much more. Most of my writing has gone unbeta'ed and I have a huge amount of X-Men movieverse backlog. I had a queen beta that knew the 'verse and English language awesomely well, but she's AWOL. I have a queen beta that knows 'verse and characters but doesn't shred for me.

So, either/or/both:

• X-Men: movieverse extraordinaire (shredder/brainstorm/language & canon genius) - please good knowledge of other X 'verses, particularly comic canon.
• X-Men/Roswell geek (same as above, but only asking conversant vs. fluent knowledge of Roswell TV shoe)

LJ Notifications
Some reason, LJ, you can't send notifications to my LJ inbox anymore?!? My new email addy is a pain to log in and out of and it's not telling me when friends update. I'll do my best, y'all, to keep up anyway. :growls unhappily:

FicSpam
So I'm up to about twenty chapters of Whispers, four of Humanity, and two of Moments. Can you tell I'm starting on the drabbles? After I get Whispers and Moments taken care of (seeing as they're FINISHED and 100 chapters each, then I'll move on to the others like Pedestal and Like Day Follows Night, etc.

A Map in the Rain
Extending this story to second chapter. It's been in my head for a while, but I'm just now thinking I'll actually write it. :shakes head at self:

Journal Spamming
I love my LJ friends/fam. Please let me know if you ever do feel spammed with my posts or there's ever something you'd rather not read about. Walking that teetering line between transparency and TMI is...tougher than I thought. We'll leave it at that.

Summers Sister
Would anyone mind a story with an OC Summers sister? She showed up several years back in my brain as a possible lab creation of Sinister's but well aware of her relationship to Scott and frankly, one ruthless gal (but for good reasons). But she didn't spring from canon and I hate a poorly devised OC when perfectly good canon characters are available.

X-Men First Class
Anyone know who's in the first class per Marvel movies? I'm writing a fic where that would be good to know.

Reading Habits

Read a book I love, 'cause of the character. More on that later. :winks:
scribblemyname: (broken: ace of spades)
So here I am, perusing the SFF writerly blogs in town (or in my favorites, anyway), and next thing I know, I'm staring at something that's been itching at the back of my head for foreeever.

http://bradrtorgersen.wordpress.com/2010/11/05/code-of-the-gentleman/

The Code of a Gentleman. Deserves a few more words I'm itching to write, but not sure how to say.

But here goes nothing:

Gambit is whatever he needs to be to get a job done: flirt, sleeze, gentleman, rascal, blue collar. You name, he can be it. However, I have always felt that Remy LeBeau, who he is when he isn't working (yes, I know, when isn't he) is a gentleman.

Now comes the tricky bit.

I'm not entirely sure he lives up to this code. Certainly not in a lot of fanfiction out there. Certainly yes in the best of it. As canon? Maybe. Wish [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter would pick this up with her incomparable psychological analyses. In the meantime, I'll think on it while I go fill out paperwork for car payment assistance. :headdesk:

More stuff to drive a girl batty (though you probably won't want to read it unless you're founding the Guilds too):

So let's just say that doing this job app for transcription has melted my brain cells and I'd like to rebuild. Nothing does that for me better than planning a story. [Note: not working on a story.]

So enter Broken Time.

The amazing [livejournal.com profile] luciademedici liked "Entertaining Angels" and wanted more. [I'm still getting over the shock. Someday I'll tell you about the AMAZING writers way better than me that have bowled me over by saying they like my work.]

So, I immediately pulled out my notes and reviewed how much research I'd need to do to make this happen.

First of all, I'm founding the Guild, so that means 300 years of history [did I mention I've never cared for writing historical fiction?] and figuring out what was what in New Orleans at that time. [Note to self: I. Am. Nuts.]

Here we go:

From Wikipedia: "Recognizing the importance of the Mississippi River to trade and military interests, France made New Orleans the seat of civilian and military authority in 1722. From then until the United States acquired the territory in the Louisiana Purchase on December 20, 1803, France and Spain traded control of the region's colonial empire."

Very interesting. Especially as Broken Time starts sometime around 1700. And that means the Guilds might play an interesting part in the primacy of New Orleans.

"France ceded most of its territory to the east of the Mississippi to Great Britain in the aftermath of Britain's victory in the Seven Years' War or French and Indian War, as it is known in North America. It retained the area around New Orleans and the parishes around Lake Pontchartrain. The rest of Louisiana became a colony of Spain after the Seven Years' War by the Treaty of Fontainebleau of 1763.

"In 1765, during the period of Spanish rule, several thousand French-speaking refugees from the region of Acadia (now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, Canada) made their way to Louisiana after having been expelled from their homelands by the British during the French and Indian War. They settled chiefly in the southwestern Louisiana region now called Acadiana. The Spanish, eager to gain more Catholic settlers, welcomed the Acadian refugees. Cajuns descend from these Acadian refugees.

"Spanish Canary Islanders, called Isleños, emigrated from the Canary Islands of Spain to Louisiana under the Spanish crown between 1778 and 1783.

"In 1800, France's Napoleon Bonaparte acquired Louisiana from Spain in the Treaty of San Ildefonso, an arrangement kept secret for two years."

I think I'm going to go nuts. This is a bit of history that could make everything messy. Unless...

Black as Sin
Or on writing noir.

Let's start off with this: I have NEVER read nor written noir. I'm in over my head. LithiumLaughter's birthday popped up a bit ago and I offered a one-shot present. Request: Romy in noir.

:headdesk:

So I read the summaries of X-Men Noir (www.uncannyxmen.net) and I read the Wikipedia articles on film noir and The Big Sleep, etc. Still :headdesk:

Anyone with good free reading of noir on the internet recs that doesn't involve bloody bodies, please share. Going nuts.

Got this much figured out: Anna Marie Raven is going to be a private investigator and Remy's going to be totally suspicious. And hot. Yup.

:headdesk:

And while we're on the topic of the excessively profligate muse...

Reflections, Mirages, the Whispering of a Snake Charmer and a Thief
Or on House of Mirrors and the waaaay too many fics fluttering through my head.

Requital beckons. Traiteur calls. I just discovered that Cajun traiteurs pass along the office from female to male and male to female. (Does that match the story idea shockingly or what?) Diable whispers in that insidious voice. And alas! Another one, in which Rogue is raised by Thieves (seeking French translation of Angel of Death) and Remy is raised by Mystique and Destiny, who has seen he will become the Witness.

Oy. Can the muse shut up?

Or at Least Do Something Useful
Like revise Moments to my satisfaction.

I'm ticked off at Moments. I hate every single letter and word of it. (Not quite.) It won't shape for me.

:growls:

But At Least the Pretty Glitters Gold
Or on beautiful art and reading and research.

Added a bunch of stuff to my Bibliography page, but it's woefully behind my tremendous slurp it all up pace. I need to add resources (tons) and issue links (tons) and favorite authors links (tons, plus cleanup), and more pics. :groans:

Having fun though. Gotta admit that.

scribblemyname: (canon: comic romy)
Okay, so as most of y'all know (or ought to), I write a lot of Remyness. I happen to be in love with the character of Remy LeBeau. But I have unearthed some unusual things in my research for a couple fics I'm writing and it's driving me nuts.

First (and more minor): Apparently, Marvel never established his middle name as Etienne. That came from an enormously popular set of fics by Lori McDonald (sp?), her Gestalt Arc. Go figure. Makes me want to scream.

Second (and vital): Gambit's ages for his own and for Etienne's Tillings, in my mind, conflict.

According to Marvel canon, a Guild Thief has to shepherd each new Thief through his Tilling, or rite of passage. Etienne chose a fifteen year old Remy to shepherd him through his. However, Remy was seventeen years old, four months away from marrying Bella Donna, already having trouble with his powers, when he had his Tilling.

?!

How is a Thief who has not passed Tilling supposed to shepherd someone else through his? Very confusing.

Thoughts anyone?

Please. Someone.
