Writer Seeking Beta
I'm looking for a shredder: someone that will shred my work apart on a functional, grammatical/spelling, structural, character, world-building, and canon-building level. I have clarity issues. Big ones. Knowledge of X-Men fandoms and possibly Roswell preferred. Also, occasional brainstorming when I can't make my threads work.

I blame lithiumlaughter and xenokattz. They've converted me and I'm considering a crossover. :headdesk:

Also, I've simply decided I don't want to do nonbeta work much more. Most of my writing has gone unbeta'ed and I have a huge amount of X-Men movieverse backlog. I had a queen beta that knew the 'verse and English language awesomely well, but she's AWOL. I have a queen beta that knows 'verse and characters but doesn't shred for me.

So, either/or/both:

• X-Men: movieverse extraordinaire (shredder/brainstorm/language & canon genius) - please good knowledge of other X 'verses, particularly comic canon.
• X-Men/Roswell geek (same as above, but only asking conversant vs. fluent knowledge of Roswell TV shoe)

FicSpam
So I'm up to about twenty chapters of Whispers, four of Humanity, and two of Moments. Can you tell I'm starting on the drabbles? After I get Whispers and Moments taken care of (seeing as they're FINISHED and 100 chapters each, then I'll move on to the others like Pedestal and Like Day Follows Night, etc.

I love my LJ friends/fam. Please let me know if you ever do feel spammed with my posts or there's ever something you'd rather not read about. Walking that teetering line between transparency and TMI is...tougher than I thought. We'll leave it at that.


Summers Sister
Would anyone mind a story with an OC Summers sister? She showed up several years back in my brain as a possible lab creation of Sinister's but well aware of her relationship to Scott and frankly, one ruthless gal (but for good reasons). But she didn't spring from canon and I hate a poorly devised OC when perfectly good canon characters are available.


X-Men First Class
Anyone know who's in the first class per Marvel movies? I'm writing a fic where that would be good to know.

A Summers sister would be all right (I think we can trust you not to write an overblown self-insert Mary Sue of not even parodist proportions right?). After the Miss Sinister gig and her hitting on Gambit, I don't think much will blow people out of water.

:winces: I try to forget about the Miss Sinister stuff (and a bunch of other ridiculous, ruinous ideas of Marvel's), but you have a point.

I think I know the English language (sometimes call myself a grammar Nazi), and I've read most of the comics, seen the movies and the animated stuff (never saw Pryde of the X-Men), so I sort of qualify...

At any rate, I'm willing to discuss fic ideas and character and canon, if that helps? I don't know Roswell, though.

I can't wait to see more of the Map in the Rain story. :)

Depending on how she's handled, a Summers sister could be really interesting. I have stayed away from most fics with an additional Summers/Summers sister just because a lot of people who make up OCs don't handle them well. Don't get me wrong, I love OCs. I do. If they're done well, they make stories really good. If not, they kind of turn them into train wrecks. It's hard to balance with fanfic sometimes because the readers come looking for the canon characters and an OC who has too much "screen time" can be frustrating. I had one I created for a fic that people absolutely hated, and while I understand it, I needed a character like her to tell the story and none existed in canon. Since Sinister is obsessed with the Summers genetics, I don't think that him creating another sibling (or clone) is at all unrealistic. He did it to Jean, so why not Scott?

I think the first class was Jean, Scott, Storm, and possibly Hank. They never mentioned Havok, but he could have been one of the early ones, along with Lorna.

Don't feel bad. They called me the grammar whore. I failed to mention that I'm as virginal as it's possible to be. (Unless you count my writing/reading tastes. Hmm...) Well, can I get assistance on stuff that isn't the crossover then? DocX on ff.net or email preferable? And... I hesitate to ask. How much help do you think I could get on backlog? Note: there's a lot of it.

Well, I feel better on the sister front, especially 'cause I've never liked to give her a lot of screen time. She has a specific purpose that I use her for, but her mutant talents kinda make clear the connection. She just has the added annoyance (to Scott) factor that she doesn't have to wear a visor to use the powers.

Lol. Yes, you can have assistance on the non-crossover stuff (I'd look at the crossover, too, but I wouldn't know anything about it). I prefer email, myself. I cannot really say how much help I'll be, but let's start with one you want looked over and go from there. :)
