1. I got a haircut. I asked the hairdresser to make it like the cut in my icon, but a little longer and without bangs. Love it.

2. Learned that I'm allergic to whatever the hairdresser used to straighten my hair. In the future, will take along my own product or ask her to pick another one and go lighter.

3. Took a break yesterday from writing.

4. Will try and update my little pieces floating everywhere today.

5. Thank you, everyone, for my little bits of happy. :hugs:

Finally, launching. Now, just to get a beta I can run the gauntlet of Summerlight through 1000 words a week.

Any takers?

Also, should I crosspost all entries over here, some, or none? Thoughts? (don't want to spam you all)

So...

1. I'm on the pretty list for [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon! Though I admit I probably won't sign up for it again.

2. I got another review reminding me that, of all my fics, Son o' de Guild is the best, and I really ought to continue it. Promise to self: I will.

3. I've got enough work to do today to fill a week.

4. If I'm a bad girl, I'll probably squeeze fandom in anyway.

5. 52: Full Deck is finally drafted! This is a story of 52 words for the meaning of each card in a deck, and I've been working on it for far too long. It's off to beta with heavenmetal.

6. I really do need to get started on my Roswell/X-Men Movieverse crossover.

7. I decided that if a nice good fic exchange comes up that's still taking fandom signups, I want a crossover of the Secret Garden and Little Princess movies with Colin/Sarah and Mary/Dickon, grown up of course.

8. More about what face I want to give my readers. I'm reading up as I plot my launch of Liana Mir.

9. By the way, I am now totally in love with nori wraps.

1. I swear, one day I'm going to take all these snippets, drabbles, and one-shots and organize them into something more seamless or collection-worthy. (Got a few more to do, but this is well in progress.)

2. My WIP post is up. Hopefully this will inspire more action on it.

3. I'm collecting fic requests for the holidays. I will probably write these in November and schedule them to post at the appropriate time.

Probably.

4. I'm hard at work on my original SFF fic site. Debating whether to link it to my fandom stuff.

5. Still kinda short in the income department, but I've decided I have to focus on writing again. It's my one source of potential residual income. It may not be instant, but it's me.

6. Anyone have some happy to link or comment? I would love you forever.
scribblemyname: (scribbles)
Meme from [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce:

I will post the names of all the files in my WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Choose one (ish), and I will post a random line or two.

I have multiple WIP folders, but here goes on ONE. My older one that I still drop stuff into all the time.

[I cheated.]

1. Amazon

I've never liked them. I wasn't really sure why until MacMillan. And now, I'm doing independent publishing, seeking to start up my own serial (and have some real ideas for it), and learn this. [Click the link and scroll down to "From the Office: Amazon is Nobody's Friend, Part One."]

2. Summerlight

So I finally have a direction for this serial o' mine, and it wasn't what I expected at all. Any thoughts? Love it? Hate it? Would you keep reading?

3. Wordpress

Do I look like a website developer? 'Cause if I do, you must be looking at the gal standing behind me. This is not what I had imagined it would take to build a loyalty rewards site.

4. Tribes

I love Tribal Writer. But her post today still left me flailing in the one way I haven't figured out how to fix, except for in fandom. [Until fandom pays, however, I do need to figure this out!]

Figure out who your people are.

Talk to them. Create for them. And only them.

scribblemyname: (scribbles)
A while back, I wrote about the road and choosing what I want to do. Some of you may have noticed, I've been floundering around a little for myself, trying to find a direction and purpose that leads to some consistency.

Well, this here by Melanie Edmonds, who writes one of the awesomest web serials, Starwalker, sums up what I want to do with The Peninsula and haven't succeeded at yet.

I want to create a serial that I can just focus on and accomplish, week in and week out. I have a world and characters and a number of starting points to choose from, but nothing has rung true, like this is it.

I know I want a revolving ensemble cast and different threads all coming together, but I don't really know what I want. Not something too claustrophobic, but something I can get excited about every time it's time to update. :heaves sigh:

Promiscuous can actually be a pain.

Story Title: Lonely
Fandom: X-Men Movieverse AU
Summary: They pretend they aren't two of the loneliest people in the world. Rogue/Remy

He pretends he hasn't been exiled from his wife for the last ten years. She pretends her husband hasn't been in a coma for the last seven.

They pretend they aren't two of the loneliest people in the world.

She laughs over her Starbucks frappaccino. He smiles over his diner black.

If their eyes linger too long on each other's hands, eyes, and mouths, neither admits it. If his hand brushes her shoulder when he helps her out of her chair, neither comments. If they dance too close, too slow, and too long and wish this world wasn't pretend...

Well.
scribblemyname: (T-Minus 2 Days: sibling!Xavier)
Comic Series: Darkholme & Xavier
Issue Title: "The Baby and the Bath Water, Part 1"
Summary: Charles Xavier and Raven Darkholme are mutants by birth and siblings by choice, living in a world that does not accept them for what they are. Together, they face the difficulties of life, love and friendship; uncover conspiracies against mutants and humanity; and fight the good fight on their own terms. Only now, the problems are more personal than ever when Raven gets in over her head and even Charles may not be enough to saver her.
Author Notes: Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] gwendolynflight, whose commentary on what and what is not a comment bit my muse. (I really need to reign that muse in.) Beta'ed by [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil I'm not sure how long the series is going to be (leaning towards four issues), but it'll probably be at least a month before I finish Part II.
Ratings/Warnings: Teen, adult situations
Disclaimer: Clearly not mine.

scribblemyname: (raining story and song)
So it isn't perfect, but it's started, my original fic site for the Liana Mir pen name (image is link):

:claps hands excitedly: It'll get there.
scribblemyname: (T-Minus 2 Days: sibling!Xavier)
So I've completed part 1 of Darkholme & Xavier. The last page seems a wee melodramatic, but it does fit in with the overall story arc. I'm thinking about 4 issues, if I can wrap it up that fast. (hope springs eternal) Anybody want to help?

This is my first comic. I'm just not willing to ship it unbeta'ed.
scribblemyname: (buried: under the rubble)
That is how I felt today when I come back from lunchtime munchables and found my poor baby internet had died ignobly, given up the ghost, and taken most of my work for the afternoon with it.

:headdesk:

Well, it's back and higher speed than we've had before with a new router that's not supposed to die at random intervals. Yay!

In the meantime, what have we done with ourselves? (Yes, I know. I use the royal 'we.' This is a trait that can be annoying but not easily discarded.)

Well...

1. We made a handful of our [livejournal.com profile] pairing20in20 icons. The whole set is due by the 3rd, but Emma/Charles is quite interesting to pull off.

2. We completed the front and back cover and three and a half pages of the comic, Darkholme & Xavier, Vol. 1, "The Baby and the Bath Water."

3. Before the internet died, we reformatted and calameo'd about 7 fics.

4. We're working on our website and will soon have a lovely network of the LJ, original fiction WP, grammar whore WP, writing LJ, and FF. Soon is relative.

5. Did RL work. Some. It's tough to do when most of it is supposed to be done online.

6. Read "Conflict of Interests" by [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter. If you haven't read it yet, hie thee over and get yourself an eyeful. This is awesome.

:hugs to all:
scribblemyname: (scribbles)
1. Some drabbles for the Megan pen name—finally.

Flavored with Praise ~ Benny has to improvise on the potatoes.

The Square Root of Happiness ~ Ryan has another question for his twin sister's collection.

A Beautiful Day ~ Gabriella wakes to a hot, unpleasant morning but gets a surprise that changes her mind.

Rough Scribble | Stable Draft

2. Darkholme & Xavier, Vol. I ~ My first comic is begun. Frankly, it needs work, but I know where I'm headed now. :grins:

Rough Scribble

3. Commentfic!

Amazing
For [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter: Not everyhing can be painted in black and white. Hank/Raven

Refuge
For [livejournal.com profile] arliddian: The world is at war between mutants and humans. John has one place of refuge. Kyro

You Never Called
For [livejournal.com profile] whipsy: Emma does not need help, even when she knows the only one who could. Charles/Emma
scribblemyname: (eureka!: lightning)
from [livejournal.com profile] mwffj and [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter:

Give me the name of one of my ships. I’ll put my MP3 player on shuffle and make a graphic based on the song. (Optional: I'll also write drabbles for each ship/song combo.)

Who do I ship? Oh, goodness. Just consider anything het from the following fandoms and I've probably considered shipping it:

X-Men (any 'verse ~ don't know Ultimate, Wolvie, or Animated Series well)
The Secret Garden
Take the Lead
Mandie Movieverse
Razor Sharp
Andromeda
Roswell
Divergent
(I've got a few more, but I think that'll do, don't you? Try me if you want something else.)
scribblemyname: (interpretation: confused)
Somebody's rant and then comment made me want to do a comic using caps of movies/actors/etc. for a little mutant soap opera: Baby Makes Three.

Summary: Raven's in big trouble when she tells her brother Charles the truth—he's about to be an uncle, and he decides to wreak vengeance on her boyfriend. The problem: her boyfriend isn't the father.

One panel done. I am officially nuts.
scribblemyname: (frying pan: sharpe)
So my backup piece is out to beta, entitled: "What's in a Name?" I'm just so glad it's done.
scribblemyname: (rogue mind)
So one of the reasons I love Justine Musk and Tribal Writer is because she talks about finding the heart of who you are. Early on this journal, I took a look at myself through the lens of her post about being fascinating, in which Justine Musk suggests that we 'own' two words: a public one and a private one. Hers are soulful bada**. Trust me, they fit.

Mine?

Well, for public, I've got aware and purposeful. Still mulling these over and letting them clink around. For my private one...

Well, this is how we're supposed to find our private one.

You don’t choose this word. This word has already chosen you. You just have to relax inside yourself and let it surface.
~ Justine Musk

With all due respect, mine is staying neatly submerged beneath the lake of my subconscious. And it's the dynamic between the public and the private where my passion lies: one I've been looking for a while, the one that would make blogging (for my public writer selves) something I actually love to do.

This came up today 'cause I was browsing my friendly internets and ran across this: "Social Media: Do What You Love (or at least like)" by Amy Sundberg on The Practical Free Spirit. Frankly, I don't want to journal about finding myself for forever. I want to find myself and be done with it!

:shakes head ruefully:

Still reaching, listening, relaxing, and waiting for something to surface.

Cross your fingers, say your prayers, or whatever else it is you do. I submitted the heavily revised version of "Crossing the Barrier" to Abyss and Apex. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue!
