scribblemyname: (T-Minus 2 Days: sibling!Xavier)
My brain is failing to cooperate.

I have two in progress and nothing to show for it.
scribblemyname: (abyss: rogue)
I saved religiously yesterday and just discovered that all my work from yesterday is simply gone. That's more than 1000 words of "Dowse and Bleed," my second favorite poem I've ever written, and various edits and snippets that were good. This had nothing to do with not backing things up. Word just didn't save any of the changes, so the backup I sent myself had none of it either.

I'm trying not to cry over the poem. It was perfect. I loved it. And while the material in "Dowse and Bleed" was hugely significant and well done, I'm on the rewrite anyway, I'll survive the loss. But the poem...

ETA: I love the IT guys. They rescued my poem. Not the rest of the stuff, but like I said, that I can live without. It was the poem.

All U.S. Internet Providers will be policing downloads by July 12, 2012
Seriously. WHAT THE FLYING FUCK WORLD.

"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

1. I swear, one day I'm going to take all these snippets, drabbles, and one-shots and organize them into something more seamless or collection-worthy. (Got a few more to do, but this is well in progress.)

2. My WIP post is up. Hopefully this will inspire more action on it.

3. I'm collecting fic requests for the holidays. I will probably write these in November and schedule them to post at the appropriate time.

Probably.

4. I'm hard at work on my original SFF fic site. Debating whether to link it to my fandom stuff.

5. Still kinda short in the income department, but I've decided I have to focus on writing again. It's my one source of potential residual income. It may not be instant, but it's me.

6. Anyone have some happy to link or comment? I would love you forever.
scribblemyname: (reboot: sharpe)
I've done it. I've officially crossed over the "too thin" line of how far I can spread myself.

Brain is fried.
scribblemyname: (tears: four)
You know it's bad when you're hiding from your inbox. All five of them.

Messages piling up. Updates from everybody you know and love and should be reading. Updates you have, but haven't gotten up yet. Comms to run. Top tens to post. Work that will pay you if you can figure out how to get it done (these will be my last sites to sign up to before asking someone else to sign up for ME).

To say nothing of stories to write: I've got them burning in my head, but getting them on paper is a freeze 'cause all the other stuff overwhelming me.

I want to declare general hiatus, but people are counting on me getting this stuff done.

:headdesk:
scribblemyname: (tears: four)
Okay, so that sounds strong, but bleh. I forget sometimes that most people have no idea what a drabble is and do not appreciate 100 words stories. (I'm obsessed.)

Anyone wanting to review any free original fiction drabbles, I will love you forever and owe you a big one!

Barnes and Noble has a few (with the nasty ratings/reviews—thankfully still few). My biggest lot available is at Smashwords.

Normally, I don't beg for niceness, but all the drabble-lovers I know are here.

Note: honest reviews. I don't care if you hate the story, just so long as you don't hate it just because you refused to read the overview that said it had 100 words.

So...

Dad's in the hospital. I just pulled an overnighter. Day before that, I was commandeered voluntarily to help aunt who had not been able to sleep. Head is not above water. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] pygmymuse, so much. Hoping he gets better fast.
scribblemyname: (rant: burn)
But only with those that are so awesome, I can afford to be. And I'm a geek. And obsessive. And talkative. I mean, really do I ever shut up?

I sent along some questions in my review (SOP if as a reader, I have them) and one about a statment in a profile via PM and got back a long reply about how much I'd stepped on this poor person's toes.

Never meant to. Love this writer. Love their geekiness. Had thought I found a kindred spirit when I bumped across their LJ ages ago. I love to go all lingophile whenever I get the chance, you know? Us geeks ought to stick together and all that.

Hopefully, they'll like me okay after they read that I didn't mean to be a bother. I hope.

In short, really, really bummed.

[Note: [livejournal.com profile] pygmymuse, I'll try to be inspiring soon and read all the lovely stuff you posted and, everyone else, I promise to get to you soon and read and comment and be my normal interested self. Soon.]

Rebranding

In short, the fam does not like fanfiction. They are finally getting a bit more internet involved and my normal nom de plume is also part of my personal email addy. We're changing it. Everywhere.

Except here just yet, seeing as I can't afford the fifteen bucks. But working on that...
scribblemyname: (bookish)
I'm feeling miserably tired (holidays on Monday will sometimes make Tuesdays weird, weird, weird) and blahness, and I should be moving productively at work (the secretary stuff I do for my grandmother), and I'm not.

On break, I'm reading a romance book. [Let's save the rant against romance books for another day. I like the genre when the book is well-done (as it sometimes is), but I do wish there were a few more books written outside of it.] And it's an eBook on my little desktop B&N Nook app. And it's by Linda Goodnight. All normally points against it. And it's free. Thus, I'm reading it. And I'm liking it.

Hope I feel less blah real soon.

— UPDATE —

Got better midday then dipped again. Ugh. But anyway...

It's time to prattle away into unemployment forms and all the documentation required to set up e-publishing properly.

Want to be in bed.

:headdesk:

Thanks, Mindy, for the well wishes. I'm holding onto them for the evening.

I feel oddly, strangely empty. The world doesn't fit.

Hope it passes soon.
