scribblemyname: (happy: raven/erik)
Yep. I am. Daily Science Fiction is a professional market that pays a whopping 8 cents per word and tagged a PS on their form e-reject that said, "This one was an almost." I danced. I whooped. This was a barely edited draft that I can now see how to improve and on a whim, I sent it to the best-paying market for the story that seemed a good fit and they almost published it. Happy me.

On a fandom note, I got two gorgeous stocking stuffer fics:

By [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue, Erntedankfest
(The Uncanny X-Men, featuring Kurt Wagner & Kitty Pryde)

By [livejournal.com profile] vialethe, Life Is Changing [one] and [two]
Pairings: Colin/Sara, Mary/Dickon, Mary/Colin (one-sided)
a/n: This prompt ran away with me in a big way! It's meant to be set a good ten years after both books, I'd think.

Also, accidentally defaulted on a beta chapter due to sickness, temp job woes, and aunt in the hospital, but hopefully this next week will be a wee less hectic, yeah? :sends prayerful thought heavenward:

On the other penname note, sold a copy of a Christmas short story I put online Friday. More dancing and jubilation. I'm just happy today. :grins:

That is how I felt today when I come back from lunchtime munchables and found my poor baby internet had died ignobly, given up the ghost, and taken most of my work for the afternoon with it.

:headdesk:

Well, it's back and higher speed than we've had before with a new router that's not supposed to die at random intervals. Yay!

In the meantime, what have we done with ourselves? (Yes, I know. I use the royal 'we.' This is a trait that can be annoying but not easily discarded.)

Well...

1. We made a handful of our [livejournal.com profile] pairing20in20 icons. The whole set is due by the 3rd, but Emma/Charles is quite interesting to pull off.

2. We completed the front and back cover and three and a half pages of the comic, Darkholme & Xavier, Vol. 1, "The Baby and the Bath Water."

3. Before the internet died, we reformatted and calameo'd about 7 fics.

4. We're working on our website and will soon have a lovely network of the LJ, original fiction WP, grammar whore WP, writing LJ, and FF. Soon is relative.

5. Did RL work. Some. It's tough to do when most of it is supposed to be done online.

6. Read "Conflict of Interests" by [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter. If you haven't read it yet, hie thee over and get yourself an eyeful. This is awesome.

:hugs to all:

1. Abyss and Apex is reading stories this month.
Meaning, in short, that I love [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue for helping me out, 'cause if I can actually get this story pulled together, then I'll probably submit it. :crossing fingers and praying hard:

2. When signing up for a challenge like [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon where someone else isn't giving you the story idea...
Always, always, always have a backup idea. A Deadly Woman is at 1789 words, but there's no way I'll have it ready in time. So racked my brains and pulled another story idea that should work for this prompt. Something I could write in 1000 words maybe. Whoohoo.

3. Working at home is tough.
Speaking of which, I need to go and do. Spent enough time on writing and fandom for the day. Well, fandom. I still have to do some writing for the Megan pen name.

:waves:
scribblemyname: (buried: under the rubble)
And I'm not ready.

:glares at internet that resurrected less than 5 minutes ago:

Must clack this lunch break. Heaps to do, heaps to do.
scribblemyname: (raining story and song)
1. I am clearly difficult to keep on track and well-motivated.

2. I like writing Token, which is written entirely and easily off of [livejournal.com profile] 15_minute_fic prompts. (This is raw stuff and will eventually be beta'ed and turned into awesomeness, but it exists. Major plus.)

3. I can write in 15 minute increments without a lot of pressure.

4. I think I will. And beta and edit and format and all the other writerly stuff I procrastinate on when it ceases to be fun.

5. Most of this will be member only and member moderated, but still, I get to track my own progress and trends and get things done.

6. Since last night: 1 beta down and 3 to go, 1 outstanding story begun and let's not count to go, 3 original stories started and who knows how many to go, excitement to get my [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon piece and giftfic out the door for the first time in a while. I've just got notice time to start an icon challenge too, but not freaking out over that yet.

7. [livejournal.com profile] 15_minute_draft, I think I love you.
scribblemyname: (past update: aiRo)
Well, I posted drabbles yesterday on my Fanfiction.net account, but I was supposed to post a big chappie of something. Will try to catch up today.

Still need to read up on Election Day and a bunch of other stuff in my inbox, including [livejournal.com profile] pygmymuse's original fic teasers. Still need to deal with all my lovely emails. And I have honest to goodness reviews to respond to as well.

Hm.

Well, I've done more than I would have without the Plan of Action, so I'll just be grateful and call it a day, 'kay?

So...

Dad's in the hospital. I just pulled an overnighter. Day before that, I was commandeered voluntarily to help aunt who had not been able to sleep. Head is not above water. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] pygmymuse, so much. Hoping he gets better fast.
scribblemyname: (future update: garden)
Starting now.

I'll still sneak in and answer emails (I promise, [livejournal.com profile] pygmymuse, to remain available) and occasionally (very rarely) comment or post, etc.; however, my lovely compatriots, it is now conference season. For those that have followed my FF.net profile for the last few years, you know what that means.

I will have no life.

I will not write fiction.

I will be knee-deep in music and programs and presentations and running around for my grandmother who runs the whole thing because I'm her secretary.

See y'all next month!

......................UPDATE.....................

And horror of horrors, you have to use CSS to edit the font face. :headdesk: Tech really is not my color.

scribblemyname: (future update: garden)
I hereby predict:

• partly cloudy skies on the fanfiction front. Low cloud cover, but some real stormy days when conditions are right.
