So just realized I never talked about this one here.

This is the Job grew out of a lot of my initial research into the Intelligence Community and foreign operations I did for that Brandt fic in Not for Primetime. I was reading [livejournal.com profile] findthesea's Fandom Growth Exchange letter and fell in love with a prompt for Brandt/Carter and their dark history and thought about a much earlier comment I made that IMF agents could quite easily be considered terrorists in other countries.

And out flowed this second person (I never write in 2nd, yikes) Jane Carter fic that was sectioned by a few cities and only includes a tiny bit of Brandt at the end and didn't make 2000 words. So not for FGE then and not expected.

I posted it and called it a day.

Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] alphaflyer, whose fic gave me something to aspire to and a feel for the kind of thing I wanted to create (whether or not you realized it :smiles: ).

So apparently, I've been accidentally taking that "add more Renner" icon seriously.

Should You Choose

I got assigned Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol William Brandt. Yay. Recipient ships him with Ethan. Um... But likes all the characters. Good! And come to think of it, one of the questions I've had about Brandt applies and I can fic this. Better!

Cue some research into how you become an intelligence analyst and how in the world you get involved and qualified for both fieldwork and analysis (still slightly fuzzier on, but I think the fic turned out nicely).

I'm happy, my recipient's happy, and I know a lot more stuff to help me writing most of my favorite fandoms and original storyworlds.

Five Times They Were Just Friends and One Time They Weren't

I've been hankering to write Maria/Clint for a while (there's a ficlet about an accidental soulbond I've wanted to expand since I wrote the thing), so when this pinch hit came through, I snatched it up instantly. Then stalled out.

I have no less than three aborted drafts sitting in my Trello docket for me to finish later at some undefined future time.

I finally started writing a 5+1 falling asleep/sharing a bed fic and intended to toss in all the recipient's likes, such as slow build, competence, mission fic, friends to lovers, pining with a happy ending, friends with benefits... It went a little differently in the writing, as fics often do, and it's still a 5+1 with sleep/sleep space in all 5, but not in any consistent way.

I like it though, and I felt like I actually did it a little bit of justice and am starting to get comfortable enough with this pairing that the fics might turn out good if I keep at them, so there's that.

Unreasoning Fears

Small, super fluffy treat to NPT Producer because I wanted to write Carter/Brandt and everyone ships him with Ethan and just ew, as far I'm concerned, so I started something and it stayed small and super fluffy and I just let it be what it was, loved the little ficlet, and posted.

First we have the marvelous domestic Jarvis household on Agent Carter with a side helping of Peggy headbanging against the density of certain male skulls and Anna serving a small but significant role in cluing said dense skulls in. It's delightful. It's married UST and finally some RST and lots of Jewishness and cuteness and it's just so perfect.

Second, we have the absolutely domestic fluffiness of a humorous reflection on Alicia the cub by Jane Carter in my Lies Beneath universe (animal transformations and baby acquisition - you've been warned). I adore this little ficlet endlessly.

So as I dig into this intelligence community research, my whole perspective is shifting a bit on a few things.

  1. Did you know law enforcement and intelligence are separate? I know [livejournal.com profile] alphaflyer probably knew that, but it explains a lot to me, including why SHIELD's I stands for Intervention not Intelligence.

  2. I totally get SHIELD's gripe with the X-Men now. It's like the private *coughs* vigilante *coughs* organization that's trying to do SHIELD's sanctioned job without said sanctions. Granted, they have the tools to do it (powers), but they should be joining agencies like SHIELD, except treated like... Oh, right. Still, I get the tension now and the issues and why SHIELD is not fond of the X-Men as a rule.

  3. The IMF and SHIELD are both law enforcement agencies and that changes a lot about the color of how they gather and gain intelligence and then what they do with it.

  4. The IMF, especially being as top secret as it is, is probably considered a terrorist organization to other countries in much the same way that the Red Room could be considered the same to nonSoviet bloc nations. I get why the disavowal thing. Wow. Wanton property damage, "an organization of chaos" indeed, etc. SHIELD gets away with it largely and only because they're intervening in situations where the wanton property damage and fallout is already a given and not started by them. When it is started by them without justifiable causes, I imagine those agents get in a lot of trouble.

I could be reading this wrong, but that's my impressions so far. I am duly fascinated.

10,368 words of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol fic with Jane Carter/William Brandt raising a kid together and catching feelings along the way. With animal transformations. Yeah. But it's done. Finally.

See it when I post for [livejournal.com profile] couplesbigbang, but it's submitted and in the nick of time.
